Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Deron Williams going to the New Jersey Nets, Alyssa Milano’s place in the MILF rankings, or your favorite blue beverage, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.
Happy birthday to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who turned 56-years old today. Jobs is one of the most fascinating people that has existed in my lifetime. His approach to technology is unique and nobody gets people more passionate about silicon than he does. In addition to his incredible work at Apple, Jobs bought Lucasfilm’s Graphics Group and turned it into the hugely successful Pixar Animation Studios. It’s crazy that he helped kick off two companies that are tremendously successful from a financial standpoint and made a huge cultural impact.
To me, he’s just so interesting and different from his peers. I guess that’s something a lot of my heroes have in common. My dream dinner for four would be with Muhammad Ali, John Lennon, and Steve Jobs. How awesome would that be?!?
Anyway, let’s honor Steve Jobs today and share some stories. What’s your favorite thing about Jobs? Is it a specific product he announced? The time he asked John Sculley if he wanted to stop selling sugar water at Pepsi and join him at Apple to change the world? What’s your favorite Jobs catchphrase?
I think Ali would make a mess during dinner…hehe. (i'm going to hell)
I agree with you about Jobs. Great business mind, and surely one of the most fascinating people in my lifetime.
I wouldn't mind having a beer or many with him, Gate, Balmer, Carmack and Newell. Lots to talk about there.
@BULLET STORM
The demo of the game just flat out sucked. I rented the actual game. I was getting angry with it at first because I had such low expectations of the game. The story is crap. It is really hard to sit through, but most are for me anyway. The graphics kinda suck too.
But I found myself playing level after level of it. You do the trick shots to gain points to purchase upgrades for your weapons. There was nothing that was particularly fun about it but it wasn't nearly as bad as the demo made it out to be. I will probably play it some more this evening. The levels are very short and VERY linear though, but I never got tired of shooting people in the balls and watching them beg, or kicking them off cliffs.
Thats the point of the game, mindless, creative killing lol.
I am interested in this game, but I would like to know what other people think about it first. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll take this into consideration if I ever decide to buy the game four years from now. Ha, ha.

@Marvel Vs Capcom 3
I don't play many fighting games, but I do enjoy playing the game as characters I always wanted to be. I just picked it up and played, but had a blast doing so. I got my ass handed to me for the most part because I didn't know how to switch characters. I decided to forgo any kind of training or practice which I am sure would enhance the game, but since I have already developed a blister from playing just last night I am done with it.
A buddy of mine grabbed it. Some of the characters do look cool. Viewtiful Joe, Wesker and Galactus look great. They chose a very gay looking Dante though.
Does Dante have any other looks?

I think in the first one he didn't wear skinny jeans and actually had a shirt on.
I've been wanting to get into games like MvC3 and Street Fighter, but I'd have to buy a stick in order to play fighting games properly. Anyone know what the best fighting stick for the PS3 at a cheap price would be?
Cheapest one I can think of is, http://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Limited-Wireless-Pla….
Steve took a bite out of the forbidden fruit (which was most likely a pomegranate in rl) that is why he is perceived as great.
All jokes aside that man is in a league of his own.
That LAX-SFO-ORD-MCO-LAX trip really sapped me. I have a flu-ish thing that I'm hoping to get rid of before I leave for GDC on Monday.
Will you be stopping by GamesRadar this time in San Fransisco or seeing Carolyn Gudmunson anywhere? She actually replied to one of my tweets the other day which is what made me think of it.
Hope the flu-ish stuff goes away. For my flu/cold stuff I like to take theraflu, that stuff usually works well.
I'll definitely bump into GR peeps at the parties. Hopefully I'll get to see Carolyn.
drink beer and eat lots of spicy food.
i'm not sure if that will help you, but it sure sounds nice.
Here's an excellent cold-open script for The Oscars, written by Ricky Gervais:

Crazy NBA trade deadline moves! Baron Davis is going to suck again. The Lakers are happy that the Celtics got worse. The Lakers are unhappy that the Thunder got better. Also, Steve Nash's suns are still sadly limited.
You "conveniently" forgot to add that the Heat are still kicking ass.

I for one am looking forward to them continuing to do well. I'm also interested to see how long it takes the Knicks to get going. I thought you would've mentioned that too Ray, being from NYC.
I'm actually not much of a Knicks fan. Besides, the move is severely overrated.
1) The Knicks will almost definitely lose in the first round of the playoffs. That was true before the trade too. Nothing changes there.
2) In the long term, the Knicks have to change coaches. Anthony is a horrible player for Mike D'Antoni's system. He requires players to shoot fast and pass fast. Anthony is a brilliant scorer, but he brings D'Antoni's system to a halt. He sucks in the ball and it becomes a playground game.
3) A lot of people were hyping the Knicks getting their own "big three". I don't see how that can happen with the upcoming CBA. Everyone is saying that the salary cap will go down and that the rules will be much less flexible than they are now. The Knicks have too much money tied up in Amare and Carmelo to get another "star" player, unless they want to take a huge pay cut to try to win a ring…which I don't see happening.
I think the Celts went into rebuilding mode a little to early.
It certainly looks that way initially. I'm not sure what Ainge was thinking on that one.
Celts are enigmatic. They should have more than one championship with the talent they have. I have to put that on Rivers I guess.
I honestly can't decide in my own head how far I think they'll go this year.
I'm surprised Nash is still in Phoenix. Oh well.
