Microsoft Halfway to 5-Million Unit Goal for Kinect

Microsoft has sold 2.5-million units of Kinect for Xbox 360, getting the company to the halfway point for its projection of five-million units sold in 2010. In a recent press release, Microsoft president Don Mattrick said:

We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand. With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday.

Those are some impressive sales figures and I’m sure Kinect will be under millions of Christmas trees in December. Do you think Microsoft will reach its goal? Or will the momentum die down?

  1. I think it is well on its way. Sales will be up closer to Christmas time, and 5 million seems feasible.

  2. I am still pissed at mine. I moved the location of my Kinect from on top of the tv to in front of it. Had to recalibrate it to make it look up. Still can't make it detect my face. I haven't been able to find the "Kinect ID" routine I am supposed to run for each and every person that use my 360 and wants it to ID them.

    1. I think you might just have one of those faces.

Either that, or it's racist against blacks, hispanics, and Texans.

Hell, it probably doesn't like the French either.

  3. I think that makes the Kinect the best selling electronic device. The iPad hit 2 million after a few months.

Seriously Sony has shipped 1.4 Million Move units. I think Sony should jump ship and refocus on being the only console without motion controls. I know it wont happen but I feel they should just market the console and let the peripherals come later.

    1. Yeah iPad sold 3 million in 80 days. In comparison though, the iPhone 4 sold 1.5 million in 48 hours. I still think iPhone 4 has the crown on fastest selling electronic device. Just basing that on their availability for the first month or so.

      1. @BB

wasn't intended to be a correction. Just throwing that out there. There are some ppl who would consider it not the same thing. Amazing how consumer electronics sell like crazy in a recession huh?
