Apple iTunes Launching Cloud-Based Features “Soon”?

One aspect of Google Android that I greatly prefer over Apple iOS is its heavy use of cloud computing. All of that will change if this rumor from BoyGeniusReport pans out. According to the site, Apple is readying a version of iTunes that leverages the cloud. The purported features include:

  1. Streaming music and movies from Appleā€™s servers to your computers, devices, etc.
  2. Streaming music and movies from your home computers to your other computers, remote devices, etc.
  3. Wireless iTunes syncing with devices.

These features would be fantastic, though a little overdue. In addition to Android, Palm WebOS and the upcoming Windows Phone 7 have heavy cloud features. Perhaps this is a case of Apple’s self professed habit of not necessarily doing things first, but doing things right.

The BGR story also hints at new iPod devices with cameras, something RPadholic bsukenyan has mentioned being interested in.

Anyone else psyched for a cloud-ified iTunes? Or is it just me?

  1. I would totally be all in for this! This is way overdue. So this should be announced in the fall whenever Apple announces the iPod refreshers, right??

they are??? wow, talking about not paying attention Big Blak or me. I didn't see them yesterday but i did not, the second video is funnier IMO.

  3. I guess that iPhone 4 sized Apple TV will pop its head out again. I'm interested in this for sure. I wonder if this means Apple isn't interested in more than 32gb storage on portable iDevices?

  4. I am definitely all for iPod touches with cameras. Just yesterday I had to send my pictures from my cell phone to my email so I could access them from my iPod touch to be able to upload them to facebook and flickr because it is easier to upload pictures through those apps than any other option I have. And the wireless syncing would be really nice to have. Especially if I can get that 1tb network drive I have my eye on…no cords necessary to be able to sync my music, pictures, apps, movies, tv shows…ah bliss.

I think flickr has an option where you can mms your pictures over to them. Maybe that will help you out a bit.
