Prince of Persia Was the #2 Movie Last Weekend: Do You Care?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was the #2 movie over the holiday weekend, raking in $37.8 million in North America. Do any of you care? Did you see it? Will you see it? Do you think its success will determine the fate of other videogame movies?

  1. wasn't it number 3?? I thought it lost out to SATC 2? I'm interested in seeing it just having trouble finding people interested in seeing it. I'm thinking i'll just stream it on my jb app.

  2. To answer your questions: No. No. No. And no.

    I was thinking about sterilizing myself this weekend by watching Sex and the City 2, but I'm afraid I won't survive the affair.

  3. I think it is important for all video game movies that this one do well only because everyone else is watching it (I mean Hollywood and people that don't really play video games). I am not a huge fan of this series, but I think the movie looks cool to watch. I am looking forward to seeing it soon. Hoping it does well so that other video game movies can get some respect someday outside of just the niche market of gamers.

  4. @ Bsukenyan;

    Have you ever seen "Mario Bros." the movie? How about Blood Rayne or any other of Uwe Boll's cinematic turds? If so, I don't think you'd be using the word "respect" and "video game movies" in the same sentence.

    This is, however what he (and Hollywood, for that matter) thinks about us:

    That is my point though, those are the video game movies that Hollywood knows of. That is how we are judged. Prince of Persia has the ability to change that opinion though, or at least begin to. That is why I would like it to succeed. I would like to see video game movies get the respect when it is due, if Prince of Persia can do well then the next movie based on a video game will hopefully get a bigger budget, better cast, better director (anyone other than Uwe Boll!!!!) to get overall better quality of movies.

    They really shouldn't have made it look like the Brendan Fraser mummy movies then. They honestly should have went with the Warrior Within storyline to differentiate it. I never cared for the Mummy movies, so I'm gonna pass on this one. Besides….F Jake Gyllenhal and his uglo sister.

    Yeah his sister is u-g-l-y and she ain't got no alibi. I do not like any of her acting.

    I have yet to see this movie, but that is too bad that they went with something that seems close to the Mummy movies. The first one was decent and the others went downhill from there. If this movie does well enough though then hopefully that will lead the way for other video game movies to have a shot at being done well and appealing to a mass audience (while not just seeming like a knockoff of a different blockbuster hit).

    I have no problem with movies based loosely off of games. FF: Spirits Within was another good one to me.

    (That said, the Sword of Truth TV series pissed me off so much in the first episode that I won't even give it a second chance.)

  9. The spirits within is a great movie! I dont really care for this movie and his sister is beat to hell lol.

  10. I also liked the FF movies. I thought the way they were done in was really cool and how some other video game movies should be done. I never liked the games, but the movies were good.

  11. Don't ever watch the FF: Universe anime. I mean srsly, wtfh. But I'm still on the fence on seeing PoP movie. I've been disappointed time and time again.
