Mark Hamill to Retire as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum 2

Actor and nerd icon Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, Cocknocker) has done a tremendous job voicing The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Sadly, his run as The Joker is coming to an end. He recently told IGN:

This will be my last, there’s no question about that. But it’s the last hurrah.

As a huge mark for Hamill (see what I did there?) and Kevin Conroy, I’m sad that the duo won’t be sharing the screen again. They are absolutely brilliant together. Like most people that grew up on Star Wars, Hamill was pretty much the coolest person on Earth to me as a kid. When I grew up and found out he was a comic-book nerd, my respect for him increased tenfold. I’m sad that he won’t be back as The Joker. On the plus side, I’m looking forward to Arkham Asylum 2 more than ever!

I know a few of you are big fans of Batman: The Animated Series. Are you going to miss Hamill? What are some of your favorite moments of him as The Joker? Did you think he meant he was retiring as The Joker for good or just from the videogame series?

  1. I had no idea it was him. He does a lot of VO work. Hate to see him go but at least he'll be leaving his MARK.

  2. I think he meant the game. He is a brilliant voice actor. He's my favorite Joker!

  3. I agree with Smartguy, all things come to an end…. like the Saints championship run.

  4. I think he also did the voice of the narrator in COD2…I never thought it sounded anything like him…but he was on the credits.

I never really watched this before too much, but the few episodes I have seen were interesting enough.

  5. @ more football

I thought the Steelers played everyone's team this year except for Nightshade, Shockwave, tokz, and Kenyan (because I'm not exactly sure who Body Slam's team is).

Then I read the preseason schedule….

Apparently, Nightshade and Shockwave aren't TOTALLY in the clear.

Negative. I have a feeling that Tomlin will not have a good year. He rode Cowher's train. I'd like to be proven wrong though. It's a better league when the Steelers are playing well. Won't happen 10/31 though.

  7. @ Smartguy

You know, there's alot of Steeler fans with mixed feelings about Tomlin. Personally, I can't judge him yet but there are quite a few people that feel the way you do about him.

I think our core defense will be in play and the Saints winning strategy has now been exposed. I think we can do it.

hahaha. Hey did you see that the Pens are going to play the Winter Classic at Heinz?

  9. @ tokz

No, I didn't… how the hell are they gonna lay ice on Heinz Field?

(keep the Steeler jokes to a minimum)

  10. @N8R

what strategy is that? Keep them out of the endzone? They won all types of games the last few seasons. D should be better this year as well.

  11. @n8r

well i don't think they're going to lay the ice on the field. I know at Wrigley they just brought in an ice rink and built seating around it. maybe the same principle.

  12. @ Smartguy

For the football illiterate… The "keep them out of the endzone" is the ultimate defensive strategy for ALL football teams. It's how you do it that makes you different from other teams. I prefer the "force turnovers" method myself, but anything will do.

We apply pressure while the QB is looking for somewhere that Troy Polamalu isn't. Last year, that strategy fell to sh*t. That's the only reason you guys got a parade this year.

  13. @N8R

Drew Brees throws to whoever is open. He also throws to covered ppl. Now we have a running game to keep defenses honest. Number 1 O last 3 of 4 years. Saints beat a lot of top rated D last year. Some very convincingly.

Try not to overlook that our D is not a joke. Cause so many turnovers and score on some as well.

  14. @ Topic;

Aww, this makes me sad. I think Hamill is a much better voice actor than he is live actor, but then agian, the last time I saw him on screen was in the movie "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back".

So… yeah, gonna miss his Joker. It was probably the best Joker on TV and video games… I mean besides Ceasar Romero, of course.

  15. Mannnnnn he can't retire!! Well he can, but that doesn't mean I want to. Now I have to batman pajama it up, and watch my animated series collection. Actually now I got to find and buy season 3 lol. But this is making me anticipate AA2 like crazy!
