Coffee Talk #146: Where Will Lebron James Play Next Year?

The NBA playoffs are moving on without the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the most interesting NBA story of the year remains with the team — where will Lebron James play in the 2010-2011 season? After the Cavs were eliminated, James’ demeanor and answers seemed to indicate that he was leaning towards leaving his home franchise. Where will the best player in the NBA end up? I want to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, your favorite vegetable, Google I/O, or the excellent Christian vs. Kofi Kingston match from Friday (Hulu it!), Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

Most sports writers favor the Chicago Bulls snagging Lebron, with the Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets, and New York Knicks having a shot too. Writers are drooling at the potential of a Bulls team led by James, with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah as the supporting players. Miami could work its salary cap flexibility into signing Lebron and resigning Dwyane Wade — that would be a killer combo. The Knicks and the Nets are two teams that could sign Lebron and another quality player (most writers are pointing to Chrish Bosh and Carlos Boozer). Playing for the Nets would mean being pampered by an awesome Russian dictator, but winning a championship for the downtrodden Knicks would be a legendary achievement that would elevate James into the Michael/Magic category.

Personally, I’m not sure where he ends up. Part of me hopes he’s eventually paired with Carlos Boozer and wins a championship with him. That would be the most devastating scenario for Cleveland. Remember when Boozer got all shady with his Cavs’ contract negotiations, going back on his word and eventually signing with Utah? That makes him the perfect sidekick for Lebron!

Now it’s your turn. Make your choice in the poll and explain your answer in the comments section (please)!

  1. I wonder who voted for him in Chicago?? I know i didn't, as much as everyone would like him in Chicago, I know that he will not be coming here. All signs point to the New Jersey Nets. He needs to go to a franchise he can build so he can feed his ego.

  2. Miami Heat… and not because I'm biased.

Ah, who the hell am I kidding, of course I'm biased. My family has season tickets! Ok, but seriously; Wade and Lebron go together like Oreos and milk. Sorry, make that Oreos and chocolate milk. Actually, they have chocolate cream Oreos now, so make that: Wade and Lebron go together like chocolate cream Oreos with chocolate milk. And as any woman that has her period will tell you: You can never have enough chocolate. Oh, also, I've known pregnant women who crave Oreos as well. Maybe that has something to do with the near universal love that kids have with Oreos.

What the hell was I talking about again?

    I'm so hungry.

Checked out Christian v Kofi, it was a good match! I can't believe they put Kofi over Christian. When is it going to be Christian's time.

  4. 4 months of LeBron talk on ESPN is about to make the annual Brett Favre offseason media orgasm seem like "the good old days." I frankly couldn't care where he ends up. I don't really watch pro basketball.

  5. @nightshade

I'm sure it won't take 4 months like Favre's. We should know where LeBron will be ending up at by July 1st or 2nd.

  6. @Tokz, no….but we'll have to listen to it every day for 4 months regardless of whether or not it gets resolved by day 1. ESPN is quickly turning into the TMZ of the sports world.

  7. @nightshade

I've stopped watching ESPN for my sports news. I just get it all from Twitter now. If you follow fantasy sports portals they give you information without all the hoopla.

  8. @Big Blak

Thanks for wishing that LeBron comes and ruins the house that Jordan built.

Lmao. I feel you, but the only way Lebron is going to win a title is if he has at least two guys on the team that can step up and pick up the slack on any given night. The Bulls have that. If he were to go to Miami with Wade I think there would be some serious ego clashing in that camp (don't forget Pat Riley has a huge ego too). I feel like he is tired of waiting to win a ring for his king finger so the other team options have to much rebuilding around them. He has at least another 10 years in him so on the whole, it is feasible that he could go to a team with rebuilding aspirations, but I doubt it.

I know he does need to sidekicks but i think if LeBron signs with the Bulls he would hinder any of Derrick Rose's progression. He's grown a lot over these two years and I don't want to break that momentum he has going. The Bulls can win without LeBron they just need to be smart about their moves and not try to sign another Eddie Robinson or trade to draft to 18 year old rookies in the draft.

  11. I had to pick other because I don't know who he is. I don't know that I have ever watched more than 3 minutes total of basketball in my life. I try to watch the Mavs but its just so uninteresting. But I do like being in bars and yelling when everyone else does at the good and the bad stuff.

  12. Maybe he will land with the Hornets. Chris Paul would do him a world of good.

Unless he wins 6 titles, he won't approach Jordan.

  13. @Ray

So true. But one of my favorite places to hang out id Buffalo Wild Wings and my friends and I like to go there when the Mavs or Cowboys are playing because its half price 23oz drafts. All night $1.75s. So I get subjected to sports anyways. Everyone I meet thinks its odd that someone my size/build doesn't enjoy watching sports.

  14. @ Ray

I just bought a gold card through Amazon last night… I guess I should have waited a day and saved $5.

Of course I used your links.

  15. @ Ray

    You're very welcome.

    @ a more solemn note

Ronnie James Dio has passed away. This man was the creator of the heavy metal devil horns salute. In his honor, I raise the horns to Dio and recite these words:

    "Holy Diver

You're the star of the masquerade

No need to look so afraid

    Jump on the tiger

You can feel his heart but you know he's mean

Some light can never be seen"

  16. Well I'm hoping he goes to the Knicks. this franchise needs something to lift them.

Ray, I know we talked about Lebron needing a big man but what if the Knicks freed up some room for a third player, more specifically a point guard named Steve Nash? He is a free agent at the end of the season, just like Lebron and would fit right into the Mike D'antoni system. They could still get Boozer or Bosh if need be.

  17. @Ray

I bought the 27inch i7 tonight. I'm very pleased with my purchase. This is incredible.

  18. So Delonte is banging Lebrons mom if the rumor is true, that is pure tabloid uranium.

  19. @BigBlak

For some reason it reminds me of the Chappelle show skit where he is banging Oprah and hopes to get her pregnant.
