A bunch of my friends in the Twitterverse have said that their formerly 8001050F-crippled PS3s are working again. Still, I’m not going to sneeze on either of my PS3s for at least a week. I don’t want to anger the gods that sent down the 8001050F curse to our lonely planet.
Anyone have any luck getting their PS3 console going again?
One of you guys try it out and let me know what happens.
will try that right now. one sec.
I turned the machine on and the error is resolved. I guess the 6pm CST had to pass. Feel safe!
Great job Sony! Just wait for march 2 to come.
Great, I can play The Show tomorrow.
I hope it's fixed. I -really- don't want to go straight to bed after I come home in a few hours w/ BF:BadCompany2. (crosses fingers)
If you're playing on PS3 and bring up 'Redd75' in your crosshairs, that's me!
@Redd75
post here and let me know if the full version has the jaggies from the demo please. I'd appreciate that.
My ps3 is back online, just played mw2 for 15 mins and it works. all is well with the PS world.
@thejedirevan
the PSN error only affected fat ps3 owners not slims.
@Ray: My first thought was publicity stunt too honestly. Hope so for the sake of the guys at IW.
Looks like it's been confirmed at least that Jason West is out.

Here’s a tip I read on Twitter. I don’t know if works. Just throwing it out there.
“PS3 Owners: Disable and enable internet connection, test it and set time via Internet. Start game, exit and sync trophies.”
I saw something about that a little earlier, I am very curious about what is going on at IW at the moment. Sounds like something that should be in a movie to me.
I have a PS3 Slim…I haven’t had a problem. Was playing Heavy Rain all last night till 5 am.
This is officially the weirdest day ever in gaming news.

@Nightshade386 Nah, there have been weirder. I know some dirt between IW and ATVI, but this sounds a little too crazy. Some people are brushing it off as a publicity stunt. I have a few calls placed, mostly to check on friends, but if I find anything new I’ll post it.
I was able to connect last night, once I selected Heavy Rain it downloaded all of my trophies back to the system. thank god. Although I hear if you were one of those people who hadn't connected to the internet in a while you lost those achievements as they didn't sync.
Just pulled an all-nighter with BC2. In my opinion, superb. A lot of fun.
@Smartguy- To be honest with you, I don't usually notice whether a game suffers from jaggies or not. I just don't care to get that technical. But since you asked, I will go back after a while and start the game again and really study the screen, and come back w/ an answer for you.
@Redd
Thanks. Just curious if they eliminate AA on multiplayer for some reason.
@bsukenyan: Been trying to keep up with it all. So far this is what we know:

I'm glad that IW got a shakeup. MW2 is not what it should have been. Blame can go to Activision as well, but changes had to be made.
I also think that HR is so trashy. Security? Really?
@smartguy
Agreed that MW2 should've been better but i don't think that's the reason for the shakeup. I think Kotick called in security just to embarrass (sp?) IW big wigs or former big wigs.
@nightshade
I found it a little surprising that this was done in such a seemingly public manner. Usually I would have expected to simply hear about this after the fact, not get updates while it's happening.
@Tokz
I put that on HR. Stupid ass policies.
@smartguy
Well see you figure that the IW offices would have their own security to escort them out. The way this is reported by g4 it makes it seem like other security officers were called. I know at all of the jobs i've had security has never looked like "bouncers" to me.
Things are still pretty fluid at this point, so speculation as to what's going on is kinda pointless. It's pretty big news – whatever is going on.
Whatever the IW heads were doing it sounds like it may have been pretty illegal, I'd expect a formal statement from Activision when the dust settles.
@Tokz
Someone like Bobby Kotick (someone – a ceo with an ego) does not waste time or acknowledge you. If he does, it undermines him. That is why I say it is an HR thing.
The security was either an HR policy that is horrible, or most probably was used instead of having law officers escort them from the building on behalf of the SEC. SEC has no legal arresting authority, so rent a cops have to suffice.
@Shockwave
Who knows…just because it is the SEC, doesn't mean it is pretty illegal. What Martha Stewart did was a very fine line that shouldn't have been illegal.
I'm kind of over the story already. If you take out the security guards, it's just a case of executives accusing creatives of insubordination.
It's my understanding that when a publicly traded company like Activision lets people go, especially high ranking people, it is standard practice to file a report with the SEC. So it's probably premature to speculate that something illegal was going on or to start taking sides until all of the fact are in.
@smartguy
we'll just have to see but what a weird day and half it's been.
@Smartguy Having security around when you're laying off or firing employees is pretty standard. This aspect of the story is overblown.
@Nightshade
Exactly.
still, it's fun to speculate
This makes me nervous though when game companies are bought up like this. What's to stop EA from doing the same to the Bioware execs. Most of the companies like Activision and EA only care about the name.
@Ray
That's arguable. I don't think it is necessary for an officer of a company. Firing up BC2 now!
@Smartguy It's even more important for a high-ranking executive. The concern is intellectual property, not causing a scene.
@Smartguy
Tell me if the trees are still pixilated. I won't get to play for 5 more hours.
@Ray
I understand that, however it is a professional courtesy to not have them escorted out of the building. You relieve them in a meeting away from the office.
@Sandrock
Some trees look good, some look a bit pixillated. The demo had a lot of compression obviously. Game looks good though.
@Smartguy
That's good to hear. Now I want to go home and play it.
Also, you can't fire them away from their office. Companies have to give you an opportunity to get your person belongings out of your office. The best solution would be to have a higher up Activision person escort them out and not use extra security. Then again, I haven't meet very many smart HR people.
@Smartguy: The way it reads to me is that the security was sent to keep them from returning to the building, not to escort them out. Ray's right about protecting IP's, but also possibly protecting against them returning and stirring up the development team and causing more creative losses in a mass walkout of some sort. It may sound kinda crazy, but this is the stuff HR people are paid to think of.
I hate HR people.
@Sandrock
The map they chose for the demo in my opinion is the worst looking one. The trees on it seem to just not look as good as the trees on other maps.
ALso there are guys who are already level 20. Ridiculous. It takes 6500 to hit level 2!
@Smartguy
Did they carry over exp and such from the demo or something?
@Nightshade386
There is no need for the security. All they have to do is change access keys and door codes. It's not like they could just walk in if they wanted to.
@Sandrock
Nope. Start from scratch.
Exactly. They shut off access to their network, claim keys, and that's that. I have never known anyone to be canned at their desk or in their office. They do it away form that and then let you go retrieve your things.
Turned mine on last night, seemed to work just fine. Whew.
@Sandrock, Smartguy- one thing that carried over from the demo, at least for me, was the dogtags I’d collected.
Smartguy- it sounds like you’ve already played/seen the game in action- good. I’m not sure I know enough about it to give you a technically-accurate answer anyway. The game simply looks awesome to me, especially the first level. Have fun!
