Google Nexus One Getting Multitouch This Week

One of the big complaints on Google’s Nexus One phone is that it didn’t integrate multitouch functionality. A firmware update — available on a rolling basis this week — fixes that issue. In addition to new features in Google Maps and the addition of Google Goggles, this update adds pinch-to-zoom functionality in Maps, the web browser, and the photo gallery.

*sigh* I’m trying to be patient because I want an Android 2.1 phone with a good keyboard…but the Nexus One is so tempting!

  1. I can now say, having a droid, that I am envious of this device. The multi-touch was a turnoff for me but now that they have it…. I wish I had one. Oh well I'll settle for having superior 3G coverage.

  2. @Thundercracker

    Nexus One always had a multitouch browser, it just wasn't Chrome. Dolphin browser which is free. Return that Hero and get you a nexus one.

  3. @thundercracker Do you mean can Android 2.1 be installed on any phone that uses Android? Not easily — especially if it uses customizations like HTC Sense or Motorola Blur.

    Also, did you end up getting a Hero? I would have advised against it because of its processor.

  4. yeah i got a friggin hero, and i know the processor speed is lackluster, however, i fell in love with the sense ui

  5. also…i get a friggin huge discount from sprint through ups

    lol

    i just should have asked what sprint phone i should have gotten….and i dont want that samsung moment with its vanilla ass interface or minus the dual touch support

  6. actually, my only other real options through sprint were the htc touch pro 2 or the palm pre, but i wanted an android phone, so the pre wasnt gonna cut it and id have to convince the girlfriend to let me drop 350 bucks on the touch pro

  7. @R-Pad

    T-Mobil won't let me get it with a contract if I have no credit.

    @Smartguy

    I've never had a credit card and I can't get anyone to give me one because I have no credit. So basically, I need credit to get a card and the only way to get credit is to get a card.

  8. @thundercracker There's a rumor that the Nexus One is heading to all the major American carriers. It's already confirmed for Verizon, so it would be easy to get the same hardware on Sprint.

    As much as I love the Pre's WebOS, I think you made the right decision going with Android (especially if you use a lot of Google products). I don't know if Palm can mobilize a robust WebOS development community.

    @Sandrock323 That's strange. I thought all carriers let you have contracts if you put a deposit down.

  9. @Sandrock

    apply for a gas card or just get some bills in your name. Credit is easy to get and even easier to mess up. You can have a real low score and get a phone, however not even having a score is worse to them.

    Get some bills! Subscribe to something!

  10. @Smartguy

    All I got is a Comcrap bill that, apparently, doesn't count on my credit score. What kind of bills show up?

    @R-Pad

    It won't let me through google.com/phone. It tells me I have to buy the phone unlocked because I failed their credit check.

  11. just speaking about hardware here

    that htc hd2 is the best phone on planet earth right now

    if that thing was an android, id mortgage the house

  12. @Sandrock

    Car insurance and revolving lines of credit / subscriptions. My WoW sub showed up on my credit report when I bought a house last year, so did my xbox live sub that I was paying month to month with my card.

    Car insurance is a good one though.

  13. @Sandrock

    that would be a start. Or you could do what Ray said and do the deposit. As long as you pay the bill on time it will build you up eventhough it was a deposit account.
