Mass Effect 2 Confirmed for January 26, Pre-order Bonuses Revealed

Mass Effect 2

EA just sent out a press release confirming the release date for BioWare’s highly anticipated Mass Effect 2. The game will be released on January 26, 2010. Customers that pre-order ME2 might be able to snag some excellent in-game accessories. Here’s the official word from EA:

In North America, pre-order bonuses include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities. At GameStop, Terminus Gear is available with pre-orders, which includes the powerful Terminus Assault Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon:

  • The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
  • The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.

Players that pre-order Mass Effect 2 at other retail outlets in North America will receive the potent Inferno Armor, which is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times — together these abilities translate in-game into a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard and an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers.

BioWare doesn’t need to lure me with any pre-order items — I’ll always buy the company’s games. That said, I’m not going to turn away some nifty weapons. How about you? Are you going to pre-order ME2?

Hit the break for the awesome Terminator armor image included with today’s press release!

  1. I'm so excited I can't hold it in. This is slightly sooner than I expected!!

    Thanks for the info Ray

  2. @Shockwave562 No, no, no. What you mean to say is, "I'm so excited!!! And I just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!!!"

What…nobody gets my Pointer Sisters reference? Oh come one!

  3. @ R Pad

I'm sorry, I was driving in my car and I turned on the radio. I was holding you close, but you just said no.

    A) Springsteen wrote the song I just referenced.

    B) Will RPad.TV be active over the weekend?

  4. @N8R I'll post some random rants and hopefully start some conversations. I'm curious to see if traffic patterns are similar to the normal weekend dip that game sites have.

  5. @ R Pad

    I'll be around.

I'm watching Smackdown. Jericho truly is brilliant. I'm also starting to come around to Jphn Morrison. The guy does have potential.

They also picked the perfect place for Bragging Rights… City of Champions.

  6. @N8R Morrison is pretty awesome. I expect him to be main eventing in a few years.

I was actually supposed to go to Bragging Rights for work…but you know the deal.

  7. @ R Pad

Damn! You missed out on some great food.

Mellon Arena is actually in a pretty bad neighborhood but I totally could have directed you to the awesomeness.

  8. @N8R I'm bummed that I'm missing out on the trip because I love WWE and exploring new cities. However, the knee has been flaring up again, so I don't know how much exploring I could have done anyway. Ha!

    What kind of food, btw?

  9. Wow… that's a loaded question that merits a back story.

Pittsburgh is a Steel Town. When the mills were open, we got immigrants from all over the world. There'd be a Polish neighborhood, next to a Russian neighborhood, next to a Jewish neighborhood, next to a black neighborhood, next to an Asian neighborhood, etc. etc. Now since the mills closed, the culture kinda blended like a melting pot and the cuisine reflects that.

People always talk about Primani Bros. (steak sandwiches with fries and cole slaw ON the sandwich) but I was never a huge fan. New York is similar but different when it comes to Italian food. Our pizza and pasta is a little less orthodox but with the key ingredients keeping true. The Polish food is outstanding. The fish is also a little less orthodox but still on point when it needs to be.

Basically, you can get any kind of meal you want, it's just done in ways most people don't think of as a standard. Last time I was in Pittsburgh, I really realized how much i missed the food.

Also, we have better cheesesteaks than Philly (who wants Cheez Whiz on a sub?). If you want the most awesome of the awesome there, you kinda have to search it out.

  10. @N8R Dang, that sounds pretty excellent. I'm bummed even more that I'm not going!

@Smartguy I was in NOLA pre-Katrina for a Yahoo! shoot. That was some mighty fine eating. The desserts were ridiculous.
