Sony Offers Free Games, Qriocity, and PlayStation Plus

Sony Computer Entertainment will restore PlayStation Network service this week. Features will be redeployed on a rolling basis. Last week we discussed what Sony would do to make things up to its customers. The company has gotten all official with its make good offer. As part of its “Welcome Back” appreciation program, Sony will give its customers free games, 30 days of PlayStation Plus, 30 days of Qriocity, and complimentary identity protection service. Here’s a clip from the press release:

  • Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
  • All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
  • Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
  • While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in each region.

What do you think of “Welcome Back”? To me it seems like a pretty generous program. Do you think it’s enough? Or do you think Sony should have offered more?

  1. i just want sony to offer a network that cant be hacked to the point of total shutdown…i also wont be using my credit card on psn from now

  2. They are offering services I never subbed to in the first place. Woohoo…..

Just get it up and running and know that you will never get my CC again for anything.

  3. I feel that this isn't enough but I don't have PSN so I can't bitch about it.

  4. They are giving away plenty there. You are without service for up to 2 weeks and they give away a months worth of stuff. Also their service is still free I don't really know why there is a complaint. If you fear your info was stolen, let me know when something actually happens to it and then you will have a valid complaint, until then it is a moot point.

When something that is free runs out or disappears anywhere else do you expect compensation??? Oops water fountain in the park isn't working…..I water free water for a year…..and make sure it is quadruple filtered reverse osmosis bottled water and spare no expense because I hadn't planned on paying for it before but now I want a hand out.

To those people paying for games online, they said Free Realms and DCUO will offer up compensation also.

    1. I agree…but I think the rub for a lot of folks is that the PSN is part of the games they buy and Sony hasn't lived up to their end is all.

I wasn't saying in my above post that the compensation isn't good enough. I think what they are offering is funny is all. If anything I would want Sony to cover any fraud that occurs on my behalf as a result of this.

      1. I know what they are offering isn't exactly great, but I thought about it and I honestly don't know what else they COULD offer……. expect of course "Fancy Pants Adventure"

      2. @slicky

i dunno either. i don't see why if you aren't a plus subscriber or sub to anything for that matter why you are being compensated. Nice PR move since your info was stolen from their inept database I guess.

      3. I think they are being smarter than that about it. People will get the PS Plus account and download the cheaper and free games they are offered. They will play them for the free 30 days, after that if they don't buy into the Plus program they lose access to all of that content. Slick move by Sony guised as compensations. But I'll take my extra 30 days happily.

Also just wanted to share this :

      4. slicky, although i think technically, you just rick rolled me, that was AWESOME

  5. I still think everyone on PSN should get a free copy of Fancy Pants Adventures simply because I like saying "Fancy Pants Adventures."

    -M

P.S. It's an adventure … in fancy pants!

      1. What? Did you think I was making that up?

Dude, if I was going to go through the trouble of making up the name of a fake game, I would call it something better like: "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1" or something like that.

        -M

      2. You're kidding, right? The flash games have been out for forever! There are, like, 3 of them! Not only that, but they are getting an actual console game release. I swear, it's one of the best platformers I've played in a while.

  6. I think this is a perfectly reasonable reaction. For one, PSN+ users get free content, such as free games before they even get released. So, on top of getting free game compensation, I can use that month of free membership to download all sorts of extras and NOT PAY FOR THEM!!!

    1. Those extras are predicated on continuing membership I believe. Maybe Slicky or RROD can confirm.
