Anne Hathaway is Catwoman!

Warner Bros. has announced that the absolutely delicious Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman (Selina Kyle) in The Dark Knight Rises. In less sexy news, Tom Hardy has been confirmed as Bane. As much as I enjoyed the Bane character in the comic books, I rather look at some Anne Hathaway pictures and discuss her playing Catwoman. I have all sorts of naughty thoughts in my head of her purring while crawling on all fours. Raaawwwwrrrr!!!

      1. True, but when a character is white why would they hire black actors to play the role. I couldn’t Kingpin in Dare Devil being a black man.

      2. Because they embody the character more than someone else with the right skin. Also I think that there is probably something to be said about changing times and how when a lot of the superheros that we like now were actually conceived they were all white because it wasn't as socially acceptable for them to be anything else. Also, look at Nick Fury- I think a few other people here have said that it threw them off a little bit that they changed the character and had Samuel L. play him, but his personality embodied the character well.

I'm not a huge comic book fan, so I can't say with certainty that my reasoning in the first paragraph is completely accurate, just my idea.

      3. bsu, I understand where you're coming from but Smartguy just said it best above me. Those were different times and there weren't many black super heroes created but what's done is done. I don't agree with changing the color for whatever reason. Sure, Sam is doing a great job as Fury but the fact remains that Fury is white.

      4. No, the Nick Fury you remember is white. The one made for the Ultimate Marvel Universe was black before Sam Jackson portrayed him. Granted, his likeness and attitude were based off Sam.

Ultimately, I don't think it matters. We're discussing fiction. It's open to interpretation. It's a far cry from people changing the skin and eye color of a historic figure. Yet most people seem okay with Jesus being whitened up. *shrug*

      5. I don't agree with that, I believe Jesus was middle eastern and Jewish just like his lineage would show. I think there is a lot to be said about all of this, but ultimately we are discussing something that is fictional- one reason why I am more open to changing it slightly to accommodate for Samuel L. playing Nick Fury, etc. There are plenty of people who would disagree with that, and that's fine too. For example, I wouldn't like Star Wars canon being changed, even though it is all fiction.

      6. Yet Jesus appears to have snow white skin in many paintings. I'm pretty sure they didn't have SPF50 sun block back then.

The Star Wars comparison is off. It's not like they made an entirely new Star Wars universe with different takes on the characters. The Ultimate Marvel Universe had numerous changes and updates.

      7. I disagree with those portrayals of Jesus. I also disagree with the common misconception that Jesus was black, because a bunch of white people who feel bad about the past think that that is an acceptable way to try to make things better. He was of middle eastern descent.

Fair enough on the Star Wars example there, it was the first thing that popped into my head of something that I wouldn't like to be changed. That was mostly what I was trying to get across- that even though I don't mind the change in one place there are things for each person that they wouldn't like to be changed.

      8. Of course it's fiction but don't we all love Marvel and DC here and hate to see the inaccuracies played out on screen? Didn't it bother you to see the Phoenix and the Juggernaut answering to Magneto? Didn't it bother you to see Galactus portrayed as a gaseous cloud and then killed by the Silver Surfer?

      9. Practically everything about the 3rd X-Men Movie bothered me. I blame the script, not the casting.

      10. How is Sam Jackson playing Nick Fury inaccurate? Like I said before, Ultimate Nick Fury was based off Sam Jackson. Ultimate Nick Fury has been a better character than regular Nick Fury for years.

      11. You're right I guess. I'm just used to the white Fury and not the black one. Just like Green Lantern.

      12. I don’t care for the changing of the characters simply for sake of diversity. I wouldn’t make Blade a white guy or Spawn a white guy simply because a good actor is white.

      13. I truly don't care either way so long as they do a good job with the role. We get too caught up in skin color in this country.

      14. No maybe not. But those characters were obviously created after race relations in the US were slightly better than say when Superman was created.

      15. How many big white actors do you know that could have filled the role as well as Michael Clarke Duncan did? Kingpin wasn't the problem with that movie, Aflack's horrid acting was.

      16. No big actor that I can think of but I'm sure that there are hundreds of unknown white actors who could have done that role. Agreed that Aflack was terrible though. That's another big problem I have with Marvel and DC movies. Every director is obsessed with big name actors to fill the roles. This often leads to many inaccuracies. For instance, the color issue. Another example is Halle Berry playing Storm. Storm is African with a thick accent, not an American beauty queen. Storm rarely went into battle, she mostly stay at the mansion to mother the kids but because Halle Berry complained that she didn't get enough air time they threw her a bone and gave Storm more airtime than they should have. Trust me, no actor is bigger than the Batman suit or the Spiderman suit.

      17. As a giant X-Fan for most of my childhood and young adult life, I can tell you you're dead wrong on your interpretation of Storm. She was the leader of the X-Men. She went out into battle plenty. What they've done with her over the last couple of years I couldn't tell you cause I refuse to buy 6 books a month to keep up with one storyline anymore.

      18. Yeah, but we try to forget that crappy storyline about her losing her powers for like 20+ books.

      19. Ok, I stand corrected. I could have sworn I remember her staying back a lot but I believe you. Anyway, you get my point.

    1. Well same here, but that's because I dislike George Clooney in most roles (I liked him as Danny Ocean otherwise I would say everything). lol.

  1. I'm not too hostile on marginal or support characters being changed a bit. I'm against the main being changed. That doesn't solely apply to skin tone.

Like Huck Finn being canadian or Asian.

      1. Again, bad script. I thin that's the problem with a lot of the marvel movies frankly, more so than the casting. With them trying to bring all the films under one umbrella, I think we'll see that problem dissipate somewhat.

      2. i agree N8r. i'm hoping that XMen 1st class doesn't ruin that franchise even more for me. if not we'll see another re-boot when Marvel/Disney re-acquire the license.

      3. That's because you are smarter than the rest of us stupid Marvel fanboys that just… can't… resist…

        -M

  2. @Mutterings from the Batman gallery – Love the casting of Anne Hathaway. When I had read that she was one of the females auditioning, I hoped she would get whatever role she was going for. She'll look gorgeous in a cat suit, and depending on which way they choose to go with the Selena Kyle aspect, she has a great range. Bravo Nolan.

A little worried about Hardy as Bane, not cause I don't trust him as an actor, but Bane was a really big dude. Smart, cunning, and super fuckin huge. But…. Nolan has cart blanche with casting in my opinion. At this point, he could tell me that MiniMe was playing Bane, and I would accept it until he fucked it up. And seeing how that hasn't happened yet, he has my support.

@DareAffleck – I can't bad mouth this movie. As unbelievable as his acting was, they had me at Super Ear Radar. That and Favreau was Foggy Nelson. The director's cut… which I own :(…. was actually a better put together version of it. You have to suspend disbelief still… but it's better. And it has Coolio.

@Casting Super heroes! – I was skeptical of MCD as Kingpin until he rocked it. Personally, as long as they embody the spirit of the character… I can roll with someone of a different ethnicity as being anyone… with a few exceptions.

  3. she is always cast in movies where she is becoming something greater or changing in some pretty major way. If we look at Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, the other two women to play Catwoman- their characters both had the same sort of transition. From a nobody to Catwoman full of power and confidence. From the character typing here it seems perfect for Anne Hathaway. Not that I mind at all, just an observation. She can dress up in black leather and crawl around on all fours while purring any day and I won’t mind.

  4. okay…well getting back to the topic

if you guys like anne hathaway so much…you DEFINITELY have to watch the movie havoc…..trust me, youll really really like it

you get to see her boobies, and shes a total slut….also bijou phillips gets naked, and i find her very attractive for some odd reason…like the progressive insurance lady

    1. I never got around to watching that, but it looked like it would be a decent watch. I might have to look that up now.

    2. Havoc is good…..for that reason

Flo and I have been dating for years now, I just haven't told her yet. Its my little secret, but every couple has secrets right???
