Coffee Talk #269: Your 2010 Videogame Disappointments

My excellent friends GameFly Garnett Lee, Gamasutra Christian Nutt, and 1Up.com Sam Kennedy are back! This time around they talk about the games that disappointment them the most in 2010. What games let you down in 2010?

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, the dangers of acting in the Spider-Man musical, Bryan Danielson wrestling his real-life trainer last night, or Yao Ming out for the season (again), Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

My excellent friends GameFly Garnett Lee, Gamasutra Christian Nutt, and 1Up.com Sam Kennedy are back! This time around they talk about the games that disappointment them the most in 2010. Naturally, I want to know about your videogame disappointments (But only after you’ve watched the video. Ha!). What games let you down in 2010?

  1. I don't see a video.

    @topic

COD: Black Ops was my biggest disappointment this year. The game is so buggy and laggy that it's unplayable sometimes online and they've announced DLC even though the game is broken still after 4 patches.

  2. Red Dead Redemption. The online MP was crap and some of the mini games were nearly impossible.

  3. i'll have to agree with RROD the PS3 version of Black Ops is sooo glitchy. it kicks you out, it breaks up your party after a couple of games, and it freezes. i actually had to go buy the 360 version because i hear that one isn't as glitchy. I haven't opened it yet because i'm waiting for my friend to get it for xmas. we're going to play online all night xmas eve!!!

    1. That's what happens when Treyarch tries to fill in Infinity Ward's big boy shoes. IW should be the only company to do CoD games, but oh well. Personally, I blame Bobby Kocklick.

idk if it's treyarch but the PS3 version is horrible and i see it on the forums that this issue doesn't happen with the 360. i liked that they added the guest option for online MP like you can do with xbl. I hate how they still ignore party chat. I don't understand how you can party chat for killzone 2 but other shooter devs ignore this. It was not available for Cod MW2 or Black Ops, i don't think it's that hard. sometimes i think devs don't care about the PS3 at times. *end rant*

      2. From what I've heard, CoD feels that party chat can lead to an unfair advantage. as in 7 people could be on one team and 1 person could be on the other team giving up camping positions.

      3. if i've created a party then we're going to be on the same team. when you do TDMs people in parties always stick together unless the system glitches and separates you.

    2. Not trying to tell you what to do but I wish you didn't give them another $60. They don't deserve it. I sure wish I could get my $60 back.

      1. no i got it from toys r us, they are having a sale where you bought one game and the other was $20! i'm going to sell my PS3 version on ebay.

  4. Oh heck. Can I get a Take-Back or a Do-Over?

KINECT – That is my biggest gaming disappointment of 2010. I wasted big bucks on this thing and I have yet to find anything I want to play more than a few times. Dance Central was lame, Kinect Sports is to easy once you know what type of movements the camera is actually wanting (ie Wii Waggle). Every game I have played is laggy and glitchy.

    1. What's funny to me is that they are making a Steel Battalion game for Kinect. Steel Battalion required a 40 button controller to play so how on God's green Earth can it be played with no buttons.

  5. Madden 11 got the fastest "return to sender" out of any game I purchased this year. That accounts for something.

I did play Dead Space and Mirror's Edge this year and didn't like either of them. I couldn't finish either one of them out of sheer boredom.

  6. Force Unleashed 2. I beat it in 6 hours, and they completely forgot to include any story.

    1. The story of that game will be sold for 1200 points at a future date as DLC. As an added bonus, you'll be able to download the story to your Windows mobile device.

What? You have an Apple mobile device? That's going to cost you an extra 500 points.

  7. Just to spite Ray I'm going to watch this video after my post.

The biggest letdown of a game in 2010 for me is UFC 2010. I feel like THQ took everything that was wrong and left it alone and took everything that was right with the first game and changed it. I have never returned a game so quickly.

  8. I feel like Ray, I just got Assassins Creed Brotherhood at no cost. One of our volunteers (who happens to be filthy rich) got drunk and ordered 2 copies for her son on accident and then BAM! ACB!!!

    1. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there… with an extra copy of Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and Megan Fox wearing nothing but high heels and a coyboy hat.

  9. The lack of games that I was interested, I guess would be my biggest gaming disappointment. I can't really think of any games that I didn't really like or that were a big letdown, I just didn't feel like there were a ton of new games that caught my interest for the xbox.

  10. I'm flooded out. All of the roads around me look like rivers.

I shall be late to work because of this.

    1. haha! N8 out of all of the things to be concerned about during a flood you're worried about getting to work on time. that N8 what a guy!

      1. My house and all that is fine. It's the main roads between my house and work.

I made it here now though.

      2. well as long as your house is ok then i guess you should worry about getting to your job on time. Here i was led to believe the Pineapple Express only produced great pot, i never would've thought it would create floods of biblical proportions.

  11. Speaking of disappointments, I finally got around to reading Ultimates 3. Wow. That was such a step down from the Mark Millar stuff. Jeph Loeb can be great, but his writing here was flat. In the immortal worlds of Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa, "They can't all be winners, kid."

    1. OMG! Ultimates 3 is out?! Quick, give me the Amazon link! (Thanks for ruining it for me, BTW)

Oh, that reminds me, I also have to buy a few TPBs of the Ultimatum series that I haven't read yet.

      2. Are the "Ultimate Comics: Avengers" series a continuation of "The Ultimates" line, or is it something different?

        -M

      3. Yes and no. It's not the Ultimates team. That book is being handled by Loeb. Avengers is more like the first two Ultimates series. It's written by Millar. It's Fury's black-ops team.
