What Are You Playing This Weekend?

My nemesis Zoe Flower left me a very sweet tweet that reminded me of the many wonderful times we’ve had drinking coffee and playing Scrabble. It also reminded me that I’ve gotten at the game. Perhaps I’m just better at Scrabble when I can see the actual board and arrange my tiles with my own hands, but RPadholics Big Blak and N8R have been making me look silly in Hasbro Family Game Night Scrabble. I need to practice…and it all starts this weekend!

I’m hoping to make some time for Final Fantasy XIII as well, but I’m guessing that competitiveness will win out and I’ll work on raising my Scrabble power levels (it’s like Dragon Ball Z…but you don’t need a scouter).

As always, let me know what you’re playing this weekend!

  1. SSFIV! MW2! Idk, maybe some Tekken 6 too. I'm taking my car into the shop after work so i don't have much to do today besides the Blackhawks game at 830, that's a lot of dead time before and after. tomorrow is another dead day until the evening when i go Iron Man 2 in IMAX.

  2. Radditz: Over 9000?!?

Vegeta: Yes, didn't you hear me the first time?

*screams for the rest of the episode*

@tokz_21 What platform are you playing SSFIV?

  3. LMAO no scouter required!!!

I will be on FFXIII most of the weekend but my usual suspects (L4Ds Borderlands FC2) might get some TV time.

    @ Ray

I'm loving the hell out of the (what is new to me, I haven't played FF since FFVIII) new fighting system and the game is full of eye candy. I'm only about 2 hours into it but so far so great.

  4. Boiling crawfish on Saturday. Could be some rpad magnet pics coming.

Probably some WoW late tonight and a bit on Sunday. Then finals week starts.

  5. Halo Reach Beta, maybe some ODST co-op or multiplayer. My game time may be winding down a bit since I am going to have to cook for my wife for the next few months since she is studying for her CPA exam and working full time.

    *sigh* Smartguy, take note.

  6. @Big Blak Very cool. I'm really enjoying FFXIII too. At this point, it has surpassed the Dragon Age expansion as my favorite game of 2010.

  7. @rpad

I'm playing SSFIV on the PS3. My 360 has been collecting dust since the beginning of this year.

  8. @Iceman

I just bought my girlfriend the CPA Excel program. She is taking her first part in June. I feel ya. If I lived in Miami, we'd have to get beers.

btw, CPA excel is great if she is still looking for a good program. We bought Becker and thought it was not worth 3k and the video codecs it needs are so old, they don't run right on Vista and higher. Also hates Macs.

  9. Just finished up classes on Wednesday and did it with flying colors (too bad the colors were red and shaped like F's) so I am headed to the islands at the lake this weekend to catch up with some friends I haven't had time for because of school. So loading up the ice chest with some Killian's (switched from bud light because the chick I was tutoring got me liking it) grabbing my grill and jumping in the water. Unless the rain makes it here. Then I'll be on Fat Princess (haha) and BC2.

  10. Playing some more Bioshock, more family game night with some of my roommates. Ever since I got that disc we have all been playing it a lot. Tomorrow there will be mostly guitar hero games because I will be with the rest of my family for my dad and aunts birthday, and GH are games that everyone can play. Hopefully more of The Orange Box Team Fortress 2 at some point…I've decided that I am addicted to that game more so than most other games I have played recently. That and Portal are really the only things I enjoy on TOB.

  11. @ Smartguy;

I just checked; She (or rather WE) bought Becker a few months ago, but it was used and she split the cost with another friend that was also taking the exam, so it came out to around $800 or so. I know what you mean about it hating Macs, I had to teach her how to start up boot camp just so she could play the CDs. I'm running XP on it and I haven't updated it in forever, so everything there is old.

  12. So I just found out my brother is a drum playing anomaly on guitar hero games. I've mentioned him before on here about how good he is on (real) drums at only 13, and that is translating to guitar hero drums. I put him on expert plus drum difficulty on GH: Van Halen (it's a pretty tough difficulty compared to other GH games) and the only reason he failed the songs he played near the end is because he was hitting too many other notes to give the song more style in between the impossibly difficult ones that were already there…

this is also maybe only the third time he has played drums on GH so it is pretty new to him still.

  13. MLB 2K10 and Final Fantasy XIII. Still waiting for gamefly to send me something decent to play. I just sent Nier back after roughly 20 minutes of uninspired gameplay and disgust.

  14. Random question @N8R: Know any good places to find guitar tab online? I'm coming up empty.

It seems like looking up guitar tab online is like a ritual of personal cruelty. Roughly 90% of them are wrong because some Joe Blow felt like he could figure it out on his own and posted it online w/out having someone who can actually differentiate C & E notes double checking it 1st.

I think it's the alternate tunings that these people come up w/ that piss me off the most. Last night I saw a tab for a song that had two different tunings depending on what part of the song I was playing. As if I was supposed to stop in the middle of the song and retune so I could play the bridge. Can you imagine trying to play that shit live?

"Yeah, everybody hold on, I've gotta retune cause some dickhead online doesn't know what a drop D tuning is."

  15. @Samrtguy: Yeah, JRPG from SquareEnix. I leveled up 30 times in the first fight. That's really all you need to know.

  16. @Nightshade386 I wouldn't classify Nier as a JRPG. It has more in common with Darksiders than Final Fantasy XIII. The game is really different, but also very disappointing — fantastic soundtrack, surprisingly dark story, annoying amount of backtracking, and stupid minigames.
