The highly anticipated Tomb Raider has been delayed to 2013. Being developed by Crystal Dynamics and set to be published by Square Enix, the game was a fantastic surprise at E3 2011 and on my most-wanted list for 2012. Sadly for everyone amped for the game, the wait will be a wee bit longer. In a statement to the series’ fans, Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher wrote:
Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.
The good news is that the delay is only a few months. Hopefully the developers will make a game that was worth the wait. With the customary onslaught of games in Q4, I don’t mind waiting a bit longer. How about you? How do you feel about Tomb Raider being delayed until 2013?
Not really surprised by this delay. If it was really gonna hit this fall, we probably would have heard a release date by now, or at least seen a few more trailers and some other media. The lack thereof so far this spring/summer (I don't care if it's may, it's a 100 degrees outside…..it's summer here in the AZ), led me to believe this one was getting pushed back.
I was keeping an eye on this game (don't ask why), but I don't mind the delay at all… especially if it is for the sake of quality. Also, I have a huge backlog of games I need to get around to playing (and completing) so yeah, take your time, Crystal Dynamics. Chances are, I won't get around to playing your game until early 2014 anyway.

I've gotta say, with this and Bioshock both pushed back to 2013, my list of Fall releases that I actually care about is incredibly thin. I'm basically down to Assassin's Creed III and Hitman: Absolution, and maybe some of the sports titles. That's pretty much it. This year was front-loaded with games I wanted to play, and is back-loaded with stuff I don't care about (Halo, CoD).
Aww, I was hoping to watch Let's Play videos since I can't afford actual new games anymore! Too bad, this looks like one great game. Then again, if it's delayed to improve the quality of the game in all, then I'm fine with it. Just a little sad.
A reboot huh? Gaming is becoming the new movie industry.
