Qualcomm has released the Vellamo Mobile Web Benchmark, which is a testing suite that measures the web browsing prowess of Google Android phones. According to the official description, Vellamo measures, “browser performance and stability, including networking, JavaScript, rendering, and user experience.”
I just ran the test on the T-Mobile G2x by LG and the HTC Thunderbolt. The former uses a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, while the latter uses a single-core Snapdragon processor. The G2x scored a 604, while the Thunderbolt nabbed a 592. Please keep in mind that these were initial runs; any serious benchmarking should been done multiple times.
I’d love to see your results. If you have an Android phone and have some time to run a benchmark, please download Vellamo and post your score in the comments section.
I got a 533 with a Nexus S.
Samsung Tab 10.1 = 953
Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant = 564
I ran it once and got a 617 on the G2x, on my way to the mountains now!

2nd and 3rd time around I got a 686.
I got 615 on my Captivate. That's just with 1 run though. Takes longer than I thought. I will try it again tonight.
That's with Gingerbread, right?
Yeah currently I am on a very 'stock' version of 2.3.3 (all that has been done to it is the bloatware stripped out and tethering unlocked).
It is the slowest ROM i have used in a long time based on benchmarks. My Quadrant score is 800ish. Normally closer to 1500.
~583 on Froyo on Captivate
Galaxy phones are beasts.
I will have to remember to do this whenever I get an android phone.
I'm actually going to be looking for one soon (used from someone). This was the main reason I switched to a blackberry a week or so ago. My plan was to lock into the unlimited data and then either use my fiance's (wife's by that time) one year upgrade if that's applicable, or just try and find a phone from someone that I can get and just activate it with my number, thus giving me unlimited data on an android phone without having to make a decision before the deadline was up. Now I just have to decide on a phone and try to find one, but I can use other people's scores with this test to factor into my decision as well.
The SGS II is clocking in around 950
First run on my G2x running Gingerbread increased the Vellamo score to 729. That's definitely better, but still a bit below the HTC Sensation (also Gingerbread).
A friend of mine that works for Tmo told me that the G2x is no longer in production and has been shelved. I knew something was going on but I never read anything from Tmo.
