I’m supposed to spend this weekend playing one of the biggest releases of the year. It’s a huge title from one of the hottest publishers in gaming. Can you guess what the game is? Naturally I’ll be taking iPad 2 breaks to clear my head. I’m still loving Civilization Revolution and Final Fantasy III.
How about you? What’s on your weekend playlist?
I got to see LA NOIRE @ PAX and I'm jealous that you get to play that this weekend.
As for me I will play some MK and may get Portal 2 this weekend.
The Witcher

This is a nice little history lesson on some cool new stuff
http://www.cracked.com/article_19193_6-new-gaming…
That is pretty cool. I knew that about the patches with Pitfall scores (and I have no idea why I knew that other than I'm usually pretty good at knowing random things). That was an interesting list though.
I had no idea that that kind of tech existed in the 70s and 80s.
It's crazy that it did, and then that it only caught on only a few years ago.
that's a pretty kool link and article thanks for sharing BB.
Well I beat Batman: AA yesterday and I'm not sure how much time I will be putting into that game now. I'm doing some of the challenges now, but I have 106 riddles left to solve and I'm not sure I wanna put that much more time into the game. I have Black Ops on the way, and playing Batman: AA has made me want to play Splinter Cell Conviction, and I still want to play Brutal Legend too. However, I have a pretty boring bachelor party to go to tonight for one of my friends so I won't be doing a lot of gaming tonight.
Boring bachelor party? He's doing it wrong.
Yeah he is, but he didn't want to do anything exciting. Our plan was to watch the hangover and then afterwards tell him that's what it could have been like if he actually wanted to do something.
Aww, don't rag on him like that. Normally, I would agree with you, but then I remembered my "bachelor party". I didn't want anything wild or crazy at all so we decided to go out during the day and play paintball, but it got rained out so we went bowling instead. I didn't do anything at night, either.
The last thing I need to do is something stupid right before I get married. Besides, I had my "fun" at other guys' bachelor parties before I got married.
-M
You at least wanted to do something though. We suggested stuff like paintball and going to a dave and busters or something like that, and he preferred the idea of sitting around and watching movies. I'm not advocating something wild and crazy (The Hangover style) but at least something fun that gets you out of the house. Also, he's always been the type of person who likes the idea of doing something fun rather than actually doing it.
@BSU
how long did it take for you to finish AA. I did all the riddles and everything else as i played along. I don't remember how long it took me but i wanted to just get it all done and over with. you better be doing something for your bachelor party. I don't want to hear you wussing out later.
I got it on tuesday night, played until far too early in the morning, and then played maybe 5 hours on wednesday and it took me about an hour to beat the Joker at the end. I found riddles along the way, but not all of them. I think I have about 100 left if I want to get them all. I've been doing challenges and finding a few riddles today and that's about it. The challenges will be the harder part for me because I cannot get enough points for the beat em up ones, but the predator ones are awesome and I almost have that are unlocked currently 3 starred (winged?, bataranged?)
The riddles are ok, but they are also a little tedious, similar to the coffee thermos's in Alan Wake (which I still need to play the DLC for). I'm not sure I want to spend all that time to find them all. The actual game was really fun though and it makes me want to play Arkham City now. When playing a game like this it's frustrating because I don't want to play through twice to get all of the collectibles, but I don't like the collecting to be tedious and take away from the actual game/story. It's a hard line to tread.
And I will be doing something for my bachelor party, not sure what exactly, but more than watching movies and possibly going to a bar. No wussing out here, lol.
@BSU
yeah some of those predator achievements were too much for me to focus on but the riddles and riddler trophies were sorta easy to get along the way.
I decided to go through and solve all the riddles. I really didn't look for them too much unless I had happened upon the secrets map for the area, which I had only gotten in a couple places. found a good guide though and its going pretty quickly. Then I can get back to the predator challenges which I think are the most fun.
I have no clue… probably watching Netflix all weekend (unless PSN comes back to life).
I already paid off L.A. Noire and when I went in to do that, I switched my preorder to the PS3 version because I figured it was originally developed for PS3 and I heard there's an extra car or something.
BUT….
With PSN still down… I'm thinking of switching back to the 360 version so I get the update sooner.
I would really like everyone's opinion on this. Bare in mind that the 360 version is probably more of a port but it will more than likely play smoother in the beginning and have avatar awards and stuff.
What do you all think?
PSN should be up sooner rather than later. The developer version relaunched today.
Aww, don't rag on him like that. Normally, I would agree with you, but then I remembered my "bachelor party". Would you be willing to help me get some achievements in Dead Rising 2 this weekend if you're not playing something else? I haven't touched my Xbox in a week since I've been busy with all sorts of crap (work, pregnancy, driving my wife around everywhere since her car is in the shop). When I get home, I'm so exhausted I have no idea how we're going to be able to take care of a baby.
In any case, after I get back from seeing Thor tonight, I may put in some playing time. I've been meaning to get a bunch of missing achievements in Dead Rising 2. I want to get at least the majority of them before moving on to Case West.
Do you know if our PP and stats carry over into that DLC?
-M
Whoops! How the hell did that happen?
That's weird.
-M
I'm rooting for your Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. I have to support the Filipino coach and I hate Boozer for not honoring his contract in Cleveland.
I don't mind a player who doesn't want to finish their contract. The clubs sure don't mind breaking those contracts.
He had a new deal and snuck out on it. Boozer has no honor.
The guys on the other end have no honor either lol.
I hope they crash and burn but also want to support a minority coach in winning a championship.
My "beef" is with LBJ being a pussy and admitting that he couldn't beat the Celtics in Cleavland. I love D Wade and the rest of the team but Bosh needs to step his shit up to another level because the Heat have the Big 2 or 1 1/2 on some nights.
Not going to support Thibs?
Nah he is more of a threat than Spolstra.
Bosh is inconsistent. I actually prefer Udonis Haslem and Mario Chalmers over him. I see Bosh as more of a support player than a dominant threat. However, that said, when he plays well, he REALLY plays well, getting rebounds like a madman, sinking all of his free throws, and lighting up the FG%.
In any case, Mike Bibby and Zydrunas Ilguskas are the ones that should never be starters in the first place. Sometimes I shake my head at Spoelstra and wonder why the hell he does these stupid things. But hey, as long as they keep winning in the last three minutes of the game…
-M
Woo-hoo! The Heat get the R-Pad endorsement! Just for that, I'm changing my Gravatar to Erik Spoelstra's impersonation of John Cena's "U can't see me". That's going to be the call sign for the play that activates Dwyane Wade's special ability, “The Flash”. The only downside to it is that Wade can only use it when his power meter is full.
Now, if I can just get Nightshade on my side, I'll have all the majority of the good karma from this site and channel it down here.
Hey, Smartguy, go try to convince Nightshade to cheer for the Bulls. That should get him on my side.
-M
Well, my original dream was for an ATL vs. OKC finals. It would have been awesome watching David Stern talk about that one.
Yes, your PP and stats carry over, but you can't level up in CW and then bring it back to DR2. So, you want to cap your level before jumping into CW.
I don't think I've played a game all week either, just Netflix. I've been volunteering at a local VFW this week. I'm only there for a few hours in the morning, but I get beat down in this god damn sun.
I saw Thor last night with the little guy. He loved it. I was happy with it as well. Chris Hemsworth got a little too cheesy at times in my opinion which threw me off, but I've been a Branaugh fan for a long time now (ever since Dead Again). This was the first time I've been to a actual theater since Iron Man (the first one).
I also watched "The Buena Vista Social Club" on Netflix recently. I knew who they were before watching it… but GOD DAMN! My question is why is Cuban music so much better than Mexican music? Is it the government? The water? Nothing against Mexican music… but in general, Cuban music kicks it's ass. Maybe it's an east coast/west coast type of thing.
But… yeah, I'm down… hit me up.
Cool. That gives me even more incentive to get those achievements since rescuing all the survivors and killing all the psycos are all achievements on my way to level 50.
I'm off to see Thor now. I got an 11:00 showing at South Beach, so I'm leaving work now to pick up the wife and eat (very important).
You've got to be kidding about that last comment. You know that Cubans invented salsa music, right? From that stemmed "merengue" and then all the modern forms of Latin dance music. Classical/club/orchestra compositions were some of the most popular forms of music even in the U.S. before Castro took over. Not only that, but in the 50's Cuba was so far ahead of all South and Central American countries in the music (and other) department, it's not even funny. We damn near invented the "Latin" music genre. After Castro took over, all of the best musicians fled the island and set up shop in the surrounding countries like Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Spain, United States, Mexico, Honduras, Panama, Peru and Chile.
Mexico has nothing on us. I've got tons of songs you'd probably like of people you've never heard of made decades before you were born. The modern stuff by Wilie Chirino and the like aren't bad either. It depends on your tastes.
-M
I'm actually pretty ignorant to the history of Cuban, South American, and Mexican music. I do know that both stemmed from flamenco which originated in Europe. In fact, what we call "standard tuning" for a guitar was devised by a flamenco player named Django Reinhardt. That dude was in a fire and lost a good portion of his left hand. So, he tuned the guitar differently and it impacted the world.
I can also tell from listening to both Cuban and Mexican music that Cuban is much more technical and artistic whereas Mexican music is much more boppy and more like party music… kind of like the difference between American east coast and west coast music.
I agree with Rpad N8, by the time LA Noire comes out the PSN should be back up and running.
That would be Tuesday. I hope it's back up by Tuesday.
Really?!?!? Why did i think it was coming out the 24th??? Well then i guess if u really need to play it yiu can get the 360 version. Maybe rpad will review the 360 version this weekend and let u know if its just as goos as the ps3 one.
@Smartguy: Any danger to you being flooded out if they open up that spillway?
@Nightshade
According to the "officials" no. I'm 8 miles north of Lake Pontchartrain.
A lot of ppl are worried though about the fact if the flood locks fail they'll never be able to reclaim the river. This is something that is argued and feared since before I was born.
Well, stay safe man. You guys have dealt with enough bullshit down there over the last few years.
@Nightshade
Right next door to Hell lol.
Thanks.
You've got killer Po' Boys though.
Indeed. If you are ever in NOLA again, I'll buy you one from Parkway Tavern.
Pretty neat since Obama and his fam ate there. The pics are on the wall right by where you order.
