HTC has officially announced the HTC Sensation for T-Mobile. This super-hot Android phone previously went by the codename Pyramid. Packing a qHD 4.3-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and a new version of HTC Sense, the Sensation should be…well…sensational!
I love the phone’s specs, but I wish it had a kickstand like the Evo 4G (Sprint) and Thunderbolt (Verizon). I’m positive that the phone will have T-Mobile WiFi calling (love this feature!) and hope that it will have Swype (need this feature!). I’m getting conflicting information on whether the phone supports T-Mobile’s new HSPA+ 42 network. Support for HSPA+ 42 would definitely take my eyes off the upcoming T-Mobile G2X and keep them glued to the Sensation.
Any thoughts on this hot phone and the accompanying video?
I don't want to wait. Which processor is better 1.2 Snapdragon or the Tegra chips in the g2x?
@BB
Tegra
Awesome SG. I don't want to get a phone that feels dated in a few months. My last phone purchase was the mytouch and a week later the mytouch slide came out with much better specs. My phone sucks so bad that Angry Birds lags (HARD!!!) so much that the birds get angry with me.
smartguy, what are you basing this off of? The 1.2GHz Snapdragon with the new Adreno hasn't been benchmarked afaik.
The 1.2GHz version hasn't been tested, afaik. The 1.5GHz chip beat the Tegra 2 in most tests. The processor used in this phone is an underclocked version of the chip.
@Ray
Basing it off of what a Tegra2 does in comparison to what is currently out and Qualcomm's previous versions of Snapdragon.
I do not think the Adreno and Snapdragon combo will outperform the Tegra2. We'll know more in a few weeks though. Architecture wise the Tegra2 just seems to be over engineered.
More than likely it will be a coin flip as to which is "better". I think nVidia is putting out the better product right now though.
Tegrat 2 definitely seems more efficient, but I wouldn't say anything until the Adreno 220 has been tested.
At this point I made up my mind and going with the G2X. My phone legit restarts at least twice a day and on Sunday, a healthy 5 times. Plus I only have to pay for my cell with this weeks pay so with the extra cash I can preorder the device on Friday and hopefully have it by Wednesday the 20th.
They'll both be great phones. Sensation isn't out for a few months anyway. I was actually going to just give you my G2 when I upgraded…because you're cool.
Wow man your even cooler for that gesture! Knowing what you know now, if you wish, still feel free to do so man. I don't want to come off as greedy but how often does this kind of thing happen to a regular joe lol.
http://phandroid.com/2011/03/16/benchmark-shows-h…
Those benchmarks shouldn't be used as a guide to anything. The original site admitted that it was pre-release hardware with memory that wasn't optimized. AnandTech did a much better set of benchmarks on optimized developer hardware — not specifically the G2 — using the 1.5GHz version. That's a much close indicator, but still doesn't show how the 1.2GHz would perform.
@Ray
I'm fine with those marks. Like I said earlier nvidia seems to make the better product right now for games, media, and productivity suites.
You're fine with benchmarks on retail hardware vs. pre-release hardware? That's foolish.
If it affirms suspicions on the retail hardware I have then yeah. I'm not afraid to admit I'm wrong if anandtech says otherwise later on.
How do benchmarks for pre-release hardware using chips you don't have tell you anything about a phone you own?
@Ray
Listening to nvidia describe the tegra 2 sounded very similar to the chips by Marvell which are amazing. I would expect such a chip to outperform a chip made by Qualcomm.
I'm sure the marks will change with optimized memory. What is the issue here? I suspected Tegra 2 to push out some good numbers and performance. Those benches show good performance.
I don't see the point a judging the new Snapdragon based off early hardware with unoptimized memory and drivers. You can't say which one is better at this time
@Ray
Stop acting like I'm judging a person. I just linked you where I got some numbers from and then further explained why I thought those numbers legitimized my thoughts on the Tegra 2.
smartguy did make a point to say that his thoughts were his opinions and expectations
"More than likely it will be a coin flip as to which is “better”. I think nVidia is putting out the better product right now though."
he didnt state anything as a matter of fact, i think

@smartguy I'm just surprised that you're coming to any kinds of conclusions using bad data. You're one of the most analytical people here. When you give definitive answers — like your first reply to Big Blak — people pay attention. When your conclusion is derived from bad testing then it should be challenged, especially when it influences other people's purchasing decisions.
The Galaxy II is going to blow them out of the water if the new benchmarks hold true once its released.
@Slicky
Yeah I saw those recently. Very impressive. What chip was that running in those benchmarks??
It's the Exynos 4210.
@RAy
Thanks. Wasn't sure if that was the name or a bad translation since the screenshot was in Russian I believe :)
