Director/writer (and nerd god) Kevin Smith claims that Hit Somebody will be his final movie…and really, what else is there to do after making a hockey epic? Seriously though, Cinema Blend has reported that:
Smith has confirmed that he will retire as a director following the filming of his next project. According to our source on the inside, the wonderful Katey Rich, he will instead focus on helping other people make movies. Whether this means that he will be serving as a producer or continuing to write is unknown.
If this is true, I’ll miss his work. While I thought he was an okay director at best, I loved his writing. The dialog in Clerks, Clerk II, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy is fantastic. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is one of my favorite fan-service movies of all time. If he’s truly done with movies, I hope that he spends more time scripting comic books (and delivering on time) but…
…I really don’t think he’s done making movies. I imagine that he’s frustrated with the industry and just needs a break. I believe that he’s convinced himself that he’s done, but I doubt things will pan out that way. He’s too good and too creative; he’ll want to be in charge of his own big-screen visions again.
What do you think? Is Kevin Smith really done making movies? Or is he just a frustrated artist that’s going through a moody patch? Kindly take today’s poll and share your thoughts!

I think he is trying to create his own distribution entity. I read about that the other day. He is going to distribute Red State by himself and forego the typical Hollywood machine.
I think once he has his own distributorship method/entity setup then he will produce movies.
I hope he isn't done. I like his movies pretty well, and think it would be a shame if he was done.
the internet on campus has been messing up all day, damn double post!!
@bsu
i don't think it's the internet on your campus. I've been getting error 505 on IE with Rpad's stie all day. i've copied my posts everytime just so i don't have to type them over again.
@Tokz
Maybe not, but I know that the internet here has been horrible all day and has caused some other things to double post as well.
I'll check to see if there are issues with my host. Everything here appears okay, though a little slower than normal.
thank you for checking into it.
Pretty sure he's not really done. He's claimed to be finished acting/directing years ago. It's like Kiss when they said they were done. >_>
Ha! Or Cher's multiple retirements?
Haha, don't forget Troy Aikman!
I think his movies have been going downhill over the last few years, so maybe it would be best if he took a break and recharged.
I hope he isn’t done. I like his movies pretty well, and think it would be a shame if he was done.
