The outstanding Google Voice has finally allowed number porting…for a select group of users. It costs $20 to port your number over to Google Voice, but there could be some hitches if you’re trying to switch over a mobile number that’s still under contract. There’s a chance that porting your number could result in an early termination fee. Some users have reported that they’ve been able to give their mobile provide a heads up, port their current number to Google Voice, and get a new mobile phone number. Hopefully my carrier let’s me do this.
As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of Google Voice and absolutely love the service. Any of you tempted to port your phone number to Google Voice?
Nope. Still can't find any functionality past the VoiceMail. All of the GV numbers available to me are long distance numbers and my parents mostly call me from a landline. So since I haven't been able to actually use GV to its full potential I am not going to chance a $225 fee on something I may not even use.
I remember you saying that you couldn't figure out how to send text messages from a PC. Did you figure that out yet? That's a nice feature. Being able to ring multiple lines is also useful.
No not yet. But I assume it is because I still haven't signed up for an actual Google Voice phone number. I am just leary of the whole long distance phone number thing. I don't even know that it would matter. I am hoping they eventually get some numbers in my area.
You mean you don't actually have Google Voice. You need a number to have an account.
Well kinda. I can log into my Google Voice account from my computer and screw around with stuff, but NO I don't have an actual Google Number because of the lack of available numbers.
