Kinect for Xbox 360 is out! Microsoft has already spent millions on a lavish E3 2010 event and a ridiculously expensive launch in New York City’s Times Square. There are still plenty of marketing dollars to be spent and the company is feeling so bullish on Kinect that MS president Don Mattrick has increased internal projections to five-million units sold in 2010.
That said, the reviews have been pretty average. Almost every reviewer is more impressed with the potentiality of Kinect than the actuality. Certainly there will be people that want it because it’s exciting and new (like Love Boat), but will the initial fervor be tempered by not-so-enthusiastic reviews? Do you think Microsoft will snag five-million customers this year? Kindly vote in today’s poll and back up your choice in the comments section.

yeah there will be 5 million kinects collecting dust by january, i could see that
Its doubtful. It just seems like such a high entry price. I know it is probably lower than what I have paid for the Move thus far, but It was smaller purchases and made it feel like less of a burden than it was.
Also this may be a dumb question, but does anyone know if my old ass 360 can even use this. The new one's having a Kinect port is why I am wondering. My 360 doesn't even have HDMI.
it will work but i think i read somewhere that you'll have to get another power cord for it.
What's ironic about that sentiment about "spending more on Move even though Kinect has such a high entry price?" It's the exact opposite of the PS3 vs XBOX 360 debate about buying everything in pieces like the 360, or the ginormous entry price of the PS3. And you can see the fanboys of both consoles flaming on about it on various forums without seeing the irony.
I think Thundercracker is pretty close. They will easily sell millions of these things, I already know several people who fought through some pretty long lines to get one at midnight, but I am unsure about their staying power. Kinect currently doesn't seem like it has re-playability, much like the Wii does not have great re-playability. How often do we joke on here about all of the Wii's that are sitting gathering dust? In my area at least, the people who have a Wii collecting dust, or never got one in the first place, are the ones talking about Kinect and looking forward to buying one for themselves.
i think the 5 million estimate is good enough but in a month and a half seems like too much for me especially with the price point.
If they can ship that many it might hit close to that. MS strangely can't meet demand…
I think 3-5 million is a better estimate.
