In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Microsoft product director Aaron Greenburg said that the company expects to sell around three-million units of Kinect for Xbox 360 this holiday season. This is inline with Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter’s (incredibly broad) prediction. Here’s a passage from the excellent Gamasutra article:
“Our estimates that we will sell in excess of 3 million units this holiday,” The company is spending “hundreds of millions” of dollars in marketing, “exceeding in what we did when we launched the original Xbox 360,” says Greenberg.
What do you think? Is Microsoft being overly optimistic? Or will it sell that many Kinect units? Kindly vote in today’s poll and discuss.

Maybe. I went to Bestbuy today and they cleared a lot of space in the videogame area for the new kiosks. The Kinect looks to def have a larger area than Move. So Maybe MS is gonna push the hell out of it.
That said if I HAD to buy one, I'd choose Move since I don't like to dance around to play games after going to the gym, working all day, cutting grass, etc. I like to chill.
I'm with Smartguy on the second paragraph of his comment.
I don't think it will sell that many based on the price point alone.
I think maybe 2 million seems like a better prediction.
Although, I would rather have neither of them at this point.
Once again I agree with Smartguy. I can't see Kinect selling 3 million this holiday and if I HAD to choose I would choose Move too because with Move I can play real games like Heavy Rain, Socom4, and Killzone 3. I have a bad feeling that Kinect will be a joke once released and word gets out of how it doesn't work properly.
World-wide or just in North America? Well, I guess it doesn't matter since most of the Xboxs in the world are in North America. If you actually look at all the 360s in the world, 3 million isn't really optimistic. It represents a small fraction of consoles. I guess it can be considered a lot for a peripheral, though. Still, I don't think the price point is very attractive. Microsoft really needs to step up it's marketing for this or else it will go the way of the HD-DVD and the UMD movies of the PSP.

Iceman brought up a good point about the price not being attractive. Just wait until those moms find out they have to pay MS to access the online portion of the game that they already paid for.
@RROD;
Actually, I think N8 was the one who brought up the issue of the price. Now, because of that faux pas, you'll have to sport that Steelers’ logo for another week.

There is no way Kinect is selling 3 million units this holiday. I would be impressed if they dropped 1 million…. it's just not going to happen. The price point is to high, especially if they are seeking to get the new buy… which means they are picking up $400 worth of equipment and probably a bag for their broken heart.
^^ don't forget a few $60 Kinect games. Also if they only opt for the Arcade they won't be able to download the XBL Kinect games….if it would even let them try.
I doubt it will even hit 1 million.
