A recent study by OTX found that a very low percentage of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners are interested in PlayStation Move and Project Natal, respectively. Here’s the 411 from Gamasutra:
Research firm OTX’s U.S. tracking study GamePlan Insights polled a group of 2,000 gamers between May 23 and June 5, 2010, and found that 8 percent of the Xbox 360 market intends to buy Natal, and 6 percent of the PlayStation 3 market intends to purchase Move.
Of course the big caveat is that not much has been revealed about either system and a ton of information is expected to hit at E3 2010 next week. Microsoft and Sony have a chance to drastically change these numbers. Still, I wonder how successful either endeavor will be. Natal is certainly original and Move has some amazing tech, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into fun or sales.
Were you surprised by these numbers? Or are they inline with your feelings on Move and Natal?
I think you hit the nail on the head Ray, I don't know what to think about either until I see some demos and videos from E3. I'm sure it's going to have the masses everyone talking about motion again. E3 probably won't change a lot of core gamer minds though
Wow that's really really low. I would love to see theirs actual data. Age, sex, type of games they play.
Okay it seems odd that only 15% of 360 & PS3 console owners know about their respective motion controls. Really, just 15% ?!?
Im not surprised. "hardcore gamers" bash the wii because of all that shovelware and theyre probably afraid the ps move and natal will do the same. Its really tough to judge without being able to test it yourself. E3 should help some us make our decisions.
Yea I'm a little surprised, I thought the numbers would at least be in the double digits. Oh well looks like I'm i the majority for once lol.
@ Tokz;
Although I share your (and pretty much everybody else's) feelings on Sony and Microsoft motion controls, I have to play a little devil's advocate here.
The main reasons for the shovelware on the Wii is because 1) Motion control is the primary input device on the system 2) Developers are lazy (and/or don’t' know the technology that well to develop great titles) and 3) The hardware limitations of the Wii.
Hardcore gamers fear of vast amounts of shovelware hitting the PS3 and Xbox 360 are unwarranted simply because motion controls are secondary on both systems, developers already know how to make great, HD games on each and both have some pretty impressive hardware and capabilities compared to the Wii.
And if worst comes to worst; Yes, there will be shovelware for the PS3 and 360 because of these new motion controls, but remember, it will never be like the Wii because developers will continue to make hardcore titles for both systems just as they have in the past. God of War 4 and Halo 5 may very well have motion control options for those that have Move and Natal, but it will never be an integral part of the gaming system like it is on the Wii. Move and Natal are both ancillary control devices while the traditional controllers are the primary input. The opposite is true for the Wii.

see some of you guys are right on. See most casual gamers don't even know about Natal and Move yet. and most Core gamers don't care about Natal and Move.
Wait till big announcements and TV ads hit and I'm sure you'll see the numbers change
I know people who don't know anything about video games and are in their 60s that have asked me if I have heard about this Natal thing. That's why I am baffled at the fact that so fewer gamers know about it.
@Iceman
I see shovelware as something developers have just opted to go to to make a quick buck off of the uninformed masses. I am very sure that it will hit the 360 & PS3 with a vengence until the shovelware market on those 2 consoles becomes just as saturated as the Wiis is. I never count on any publisher or developer to have a shred of integrity when it comes to turning a quick buck in the meantime. Sure there will still be AAA titles coming out and integrating, but nothing is going to stop the craptacular games that are coming.
