Mortal Kombat is Koming Back in 2011: Do You Kare?

Warner Bros. has announced that it will be publishing Mortal Kombat for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. The game is being developed by NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon’s new company that’s full of old Midway peeps. Here’s some official information from the press release:

The newest chapter of the iconic fight franchise marks a triumphant return to the series’ mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic. Driven by an all new graphics engine, the fan favorite Fatality is back and presented in more gory detail than ever before. In addition, Mortal Kombat introduces a number of new game-play features including tag team and the deepest story mode of any fighting game. Players can choose from an extensive lineup of the game’s iconic warriors and challenge their friends in traditional 1 vs. 1 matches, or take on several new game modes.

I’ve alway been a fan of the Mortal Kombat games, characters, and universe. It’s cool, but isn’t afraid to poke fun at itself. That said, I wonder if MK will mean anything to gamers in 2011. What say you? Do you care that Mortal Kombat is coming back next year?!?

  1. Hell yeah i care! I wasn't completely satisfied with mk vs dc but i wasn't disappointed as other gamers were.

  2. YESSSSS!!!

I was just gonna tell you guys about this. This is taking it back to the roots and I can't wait!

    @ Tokz

    I feel the same way.

  3. I'll pay attention to it. Maybe it's just me…but I can't interested in a fighting game anymore. I bought SF4 when it came out and then barely played it after a week or so.

  4. I Kare if Cyrax isn't in the game. It's not fair to have to try to dodge green energy nets flying at you and bombs at your feet at the same time.

  5. @ RROD;

I ALWAYS used Cyrax back in the days of MK3. It was the only character that I could do a max combo with. I didn't use the bombs (too complicated to pull off), but I used the green energy nets like a radioactive drunken fisherman. You'd probably hate to play against me if I did that, but my brother eventually found a good way to counter and I had to adjust my strategy.

  6. Wasn't there just a recent MK game? I thought I played a fairly new one. Maybe it was the MK v DC Tokz mentioned though.

I'd play a new one for sure. Someone needs to redo Killer Instinct or Bloody Roar or Eternal Champions or Clay Fighters

  7. Nope. I'm not a big fan of fighting games, w/ the exception of the Soul Caliber series.

  8. @Sandrock: Honestly, my love of Soul Caliber mostly comes from the memory of taking turns with the Dreamcast controller with large groups of friends at college get togethers. The series has just kinda stuck with me since then, and I really enjoyed playing the latest one online w/ some of my old buddies.

  9. @Nightshade

I feel the same way with SC2 and my old GC. Good times, but I haven't gotten around to getting SC4 yet. I'm sure next month I'll be itching for a new game to play and that one is on my list. (assuming I can afford it.)

  10. @Sandrock: It's fairly cheap these days actually. I think it's down to like $30.

  11. lol@best price..thats always what i look at too, but that doesnt get ray any money….

im going to purchase this game, ive been waiting for a mature mortal kombat game for like a decade…mk vs DC…teen rated game….bah!!

  12. @thundercracker

I know it doesn't get ray any money or much money but the $7.85 is enough to entice anyone. lowest price for ps3 is 10.06 but i can get a new game for $15.00 if i'm lucky enough to go another spending spree i will pick this up.

  13. i know tokz, i know dude..i just like to benefit ray as much as i can with my amazonian purchasing
