Mortal Kombat Reboot With Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan

Here’s a very cool clip of what appears to be a rated-R Mortal Kombat movie starring Michael Jai White (Tyson, Spawn) and Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager). It’s violent, dark, and bloody — much different than the other Mortal Kombat movies. However, it also has some changes that purists might not dig. Baraka and Reptile are no longer creatures from other races; instead one is a psycho doctor and the other is a psycho mutant.

The video has White portraying Jackson “Jax” Briggs, narrating a bunch of plot points to an incarcerated ninja (that loves the color yellow and impaling his opponents). Johnny Cage is shown getting his ass kicked and eventually decapitated. Jeri Ryan — who is still sexy for her age — walks in as Sonja Blade. The two convince the ninja to aid them by using his nemesis Sub-Zero as bait.

Despite the changes, I love the direction this movie is going in. Check out the clip and let me know what you think of it. Are you down with a dark Mortal Kombat without Robin Shou’s glorious hair?

  1. Damn I want to watch this so bad, but I'm at work. From what you described Ray this is already better to me lol.

  2. Man this looked pretty good. It has potential! It wouldve been epic if robin shou's hair wouldve made a cameo!

  3. Watched the video at work.

WOW THIS IS GONNA BE EPIC.

At first I wasn't feeling the description provided by Rpad about Reptile and Baraka, but I think this will be a great way to make them "human" and even more bad ass. This is a film for adults so I appreciate why they changed their origins.

  4. @rpad

ha! could you imagine that? it should be in shang tsung's trophy case! I'm surprised they're choosing to go with Scorpion as the protangonist.

  5. Christopher Lambert was great. I'm not sure I like Scorpion in that trailer. Too soft and not a skull lol.

Seriously they need to toughen him up a bit.

  6. @ Ray

Compared to Reptiles origins I agree. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that they (who ever is making this film) are aware of the target audience and aren't forcing us to believe some guy was just born like that (although in the 90s I did not care where he came from).

  7. I don't know. I've always had a soft spot for cheezy 80s and 90s camp.

    Is that so wrong?

    -M

  8. who is robin shou?

is he the dude who played shang tsung in the first movie??…no wait, since you are talking about hair, it must be the dude who played liu kang

that shang tsung guy was awesome

  9. Ohs no i just read on g4 that this video isnt a trailer, but like a smaple video to entice WB to pickup the rights and back the movie. I hope it works!!!
