Here’s a reminder that the Apple iPad 3G — you know, the one with the mobile chip for AT&T’s 3G “service” — is available today. It’s priced at $629/$729/$829 for the 16/32/64GB versions. Unlimited service costs $30 a month, which is actually a pretty good deal.
I’m so tempted by this device. I already know it would rule for entertainment, but I’m pretty sure I could use it as an effective blogging tool. That said, the next iPhone — with its camera and video capabilities — would probably be more useful…but not as much fun…and with a more expensive service plan. Decisions, decisions.
Are any of you intersted in the iPad 3G?
with tethering from my phone I don't need the 3G, i'm also particular about astethics and I don't like the black top portion of the 3G version. but I can understand why people would get it.
Honestly I'm very happy with my iPad. I use it every day, for work, for home, for pleasure, for watching videos, all kinds of things.
What's more surprising is that I've played a few games on it and have really enjoyed them. I never play games on my iPhone much except texas hold-em
Plants vs Zombies – normally I don't like fortress defense games but this is more like strategy, it's quite stunning in hd as well.
iBlast Moki – that's an awesome puzzle game from ngmoco, those guys make the best stuff
WTD – what's the difference, picture matching game my gf and I love to play together. It used to be my favorite game at bars when I was younger and now I have it with me
Godfinger – works kind of like mafia wars and farmville except there's actually a game to play. it's free (if you can avoid purchasing things to make it faster) and a lot of fun. it's slow moving though since everything works in real time and the game continues when you leave it.
my favorite thing about the ipad? I leave it on… all the time, usually I'll stick it in the dock when i get home from work for an hour or so, but I don't have to charge it for days sometimes. that's quite an advantage over my laptop.
No interest. I'll wait and the the next version that comes out next week.
I just can't buy an Apple product with the " i " brand on it because I know as soon as I buy it they will make it obsolete. I see my friends buying each iteration of the iPhone or iPod only to "need" to go get the next one. All of this when the first model they got should have all of the functionality of the one they are getting. I know its Apple's "business model", but that doesn't excuse it.
All of the recent Apple news and a friend letting me borrow an iPhone to play words with friends have made me fully NOT want the next iPhone also no matter what. The iPhone I borrowed wouldn't turn off anymore. I would power it off and it would restart. It was lighting up my room all night. It would pop up an error message saying the something like this accessory is compatible with iPhone – NOTHING WAS PLUGGED INTO IT! Man I hate Apple products.
@slicky – see for a while I thought, I'll just buy the next version when it comes out, but who am I kidding? I've owned all 3 iphones and i'll own the next one this June. The bottom line is I don't need to wait for the next iteration of iPad cause I'll just get it when it comes out.
my favorite part about iDevices? resale value – Save for my first iPhone I've made a profit selling each of my phones to upgrade to the latest version. it's brilliant!
@slicky – honestly man if Apple's 'business model' is to improve their handheld devices each year I am all for it. no one is forcing people to upgrade, but for those of us who want the latest and greatest get it. win win if you ask me.
I have a few friends that are very content with their original iPhone – most of my friends didn't even upgrade to 3GS. Electronics become obsolete every year. it's the way of technology. things are always improving.
sorry, last comment on the subject – I remember a time not so long ago when I bought a phone and it lasted for 2 or 3 years without getting a single new feature. It's funny that people complain when certain features aren't added to older devices like the iPhone Edge and 3G
Not interested in the iPad. At least for now, maybe the 3rd or 4th gen will be for me, just like my iPod.
@Shockwave
The reason people complain about iPhones getting "new" features and not other phones is because most other phones already come with all of the "new" feature that Apple adds to their products.
My BB Bold has always been able to send MMS, Always had a Flash on the Camera, Always been able to record video, Always been able to tether, I will Always be able to change my own battery, I will always be able to add more memory without buying a new device.. So there is no need to "update" the hardware part of my phone. All of this applies to my previous phone also the LG Incite.
some of those features should have been standard to start with, but Apple built a phone OS from the ground up. sure they take their time with updates but they get them right, which is what I appreciate. I know that my phone is the most advanced phone on the market, regardless if it doesn't have a camera flash (I do have a camera, but it's nice to have the iPhone one with me always.)
If anything, the updates prove that Apple is really listening to their users. Apple never wanted to do multitasking, but people cried enough about it that they finally gave in. But they did it in a way that doesn't compromise battery life and performance. I swear they are some of the best computer manufacturers in the world, if not the best.
"the most advanced phone on the market"
Really?!? That's a bit of and overstatement. There are many many phones out there with better specs and more functionality. If you use an iPhone the way they sell it to you it is a very limited phone. A non-jailbraoken iPhone is pretty limited. To get good features out of it you have to tear down what Apple built and go with user created stuff. Now I can;t deny their real computer line is pretty impressive, albeit expensive, but the " i " line has never been ground breaking. They may sell them like crazy but again it is just their crack marketing team.
I do like that Apple does update their software regularly, unlike my BB and WinMo. I respect them for that. Its their hardware and them keeping you under their thumb at all times that I have a problem with.
I think they definitely have the best handset on the market. They being Apple. My HTC is nice, but I know it isn't made as well.
I agree with @SlickyFats. I love the iPhone's software. I like the hardware a lot too. But it's hardly the most advanced phone on the market.
maybe not the most advanced hardware (i.e. camera, processor) but definitely the most advanced software and OS, imho
@Shockwave562 That's not even true. It's the easiest to use and has the best app store, but iPhone OS is hardly the most advanced. There are several things that Android and WebOS do that can't be done on iPhone OS.
that may be true in that certain features are available at this time, but I've been largely disappointed with android phones. My girlfriend wanted anything but an iphone/ATT but after comparing an iPhone and android her only option was an iPhone.
iPhone may not have all of the features of other phones, but it does what other phones do much better. which is why I consider it the best OS, not to mention it's the best touch technology I've witnessed. Personally I like that apple doesn't tack on a bunch of features, they perfect them first.
@Shockwave562 It sounds like you don't know the market, are unfamiliar with the OS, and have a bias for iPhone. That's fine. The Motorola Droid, HTC Nexus One, and HTC Incredible are excellent phones.
While I would say that the iPhone is the most elegant mobile OS, saying that it's the "most advanced" and that "it does what other phones do much better" is just ignorant. If you like it better, that's totally cool. Just be aware that there are things it can't do that its competitors have done for a long time.
