PSA: Buy Band Hero, DJ Hero, or Guitar Hero 5 and Get $40 Credit

DJ Hero

Today’s Amazon “Countdown to Black Friday” deal is probably the best one yet. If you buy a select DJ Hero, Band Hero, or Guitar Hero 5 bundle, you get $40 in Amazon credit for a future purchase. SKUs for PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 are available.

The GH5 bundles for current generation consoles are probably the best deal. They cost $98.99, so with the $40 credit they’re essentially $58.99.

  1. As someone who only has GH3 and wants to make the transition into "band" games (eventually), which set of plastic peripherals would you recommend if you could only have one set? Guitar Hero: World Tour, Band Hero, or Guitar Hero 5… Or are they all the same because they all are from Activision?

stratocaster? telecaster? starcaster? lol. my dream guitar is nofx's el hefe's telecaster. that yellow telecaster

  3. Unfortunely, my lack of coordination, skill, and tin ear makes it virtually impossible to learn a REAL insturment.

    … also lack of money.

its never too late to learn one. and there are a lot of music stores that sell guitars for 50 bux. i used to teach guitar lessons to 24 to 30 year old guys and chicks a few months ago.

  5. @N8R

do you think warped tour's gonna be good next year? im hoping for more punk and ska bands to play.

  6. @ rbee

For beginners, nothing beats a Strat. They truly are the most versatile guitar out there. The more experienced lead players tend to lean towards the Tele though.

Warped tour has bummed me out ever since My Chemical Romance broke.

Les Paul's are a distinct sound. They aren't for everyone and everything. Gibson stepped that up with the SG. They originally called the SG a Les but the actual Les Paul got pissed and broke his contract with Gibson. Years later Gibson cleared all that up with him and now it's the SG. I think my favorite electrics are Paul Reed Smith (PRS).

Gibson acoustics are breathtaking. My dad played a 1918 Gibson model L which is technically mine now… but I can't bring myself to touch it. I like what Takamine has done lately, and then there's Martin. I have a Guild acoustic guitar myself.

I have a limited edition Ovation acoustic bass that's my baby. My electric bass is a 5 string that was custom made for me by my boy Joe who learned to build guitars from his dad, BC Rich.

  7. Not interested in any of those myself.Gonna stick with rock band & 2.Eventually get the beatles.Forgot I have AC/DC also.Thats about enough music games for me.

  8. @N8R I've always wanted a Raingsong for traveling. Humidity can really screw with wood and I go to Southeast Asia a lot. Graphite solves that problem.

I've never been able to afford a Les Paul — just played with friends. I had a few Carvins that I was really happy with, but they're all gone now.

Yeah, the guitars they build in Japan and Korea to be shipped here are actually built in climate controlled rooms now. Even with graphite, you still have to worry about the glue. Also with a graphite, if something does crack on it (which granted, is pretty tough to do), there's pretty much no repair. It's time for a new guitar.

Funny you mention it. I was just watching that show Flash Forward on Wed. and the one character is a smokin' hot japanese girl who gets off the plane in LA with an guitar on her back. I'm sitting at my house thinking "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?".

There's also a few different styles of Les Pauls. I like the Studios myself.

  10. @new topic

i have a takoma which im absolutely in love with. So much so that i prefer it over my brothers 2500 dollar martin acoustic. I dont really play electric much, but i have a few of those too. Ive got a yamaha, a 7 string ibanez and a 78 telecaster that i got from my guitar teacher.

i could never afford a gibson either, well….maybe i could, but guitar is just a hobby of mine. Im not a real musician like my man n8r is. I would love one though!

  11. @N8R

i know, the fretboards on stratocasters are so chill. yeah, teles are for leads, even though im just a rhythym guy, i still want one. lol, i never even knew they broke up. the only album i liked from them was three cheers for sweet revenge.

    @N8R and rpad

i didnt even know about that. i have a takamine here, and so if i bring it to the philippines, will the weather over there mess up the wood?

  12. random thoughts for the day

a good friend of mine just got a 2010 black on black dodge challenger rt…i hate him. Im still driving my honda accord, until my gf finally graduates….at which point i get my trans am, which im upgrading with a corvette LS-1 engine.

i also hate THE ohio state university

  13. @ rbee

When I said "broke", I meant came out… and not in the gay way. I never liked those guys and Warped Tour is all emo now.

    @ Thundercracker

I went to this one old dude's house and his brother had just recently died. As I'm sitting there, I notice by his couch that he has an OLD school Fender case sitting there. I'm all "What's that?" he says "That's my brother's old guitar. He had it sitting in his attic for years and when we cleaned out his house, I figured I'd grab it." "Can I see it?" I replied.

He opened the case to reveal a '63 Strat in mint condition. I held back my drool and said as nonchalant as possible "Would you think about selling it?". He said "How much are you offering?" I said "$500" (it's a $10,000 guitar, easy) he said "Give me a day to think about it." I said "$800". He still needed time. He kicked me out when I got to $1500.

The next day he called me to tell me he looked it up and saw how much it was worth. However, he didn't blame me for trying.

  14. @ rbee

And… oh yeah. Crossing oceans is not good for guitars at all. It can warp the wood seriously bad. The glue is the other issue.

That's why Yamaha acoustics used to be crap over here but suddenly got better. They started building them in climate controlled conditions.

  15. @N8R

well, this year was alright. they had nofx, bad religion, and less than jake on the main stage. the old school stage was awesome. they had the adicts, the UK subs, channel 3(FROM CERRITOS, CA!!! WOOOO!!!), DOA, the adolescents, guttermouth, and TSOL. TSOL and the adolescents were amazing man. but still, there were more emo bands than punk bands, especially on the mainstage. disappointing.

  16. @N8R

realy? wow, thanks for the heads-up. didnt know about that. guess i wont be bringing it for my vaca… :(

  17. @ N8R;

Next time you find yourself in that situation, ask the guy "how much do you want for it?" instead of giving him a number. That way, he feels in control of the negotiations and does not feel intimidated. When you threw out a number (500), and kept upping it, you put the guy on the defensive and made him retreat. Next time you know what you are dealing with, and the other guy doesn't, let them feel in control and work with them to find a mutual connection. I'm not saying that he would have agreed to sell it had you not thrown out a number first, but maybe you would have had a better chance if he didn't think you were trying to rip him off.
