As much as I love Shawn Michaels’ work, in my mind Ric Flair is the greatest of all time, with HBK just behind him. Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho are ranked lower than they ought to be; I’d certainly put both of them ahead of Edge. Cena and Mysterio are way too high. Batista absolutely does not belong on this list. I’d drop Jeff Hardy too.

Obviously some of the list is based on WWE politics, but it’s mostly solid. What do you think of it? Are there any wrestlers missing from the list? Anyone on it that you think is unworthy? I’m super looking forward to discussing this with y’all!

  1. wow, i have no idea what the criteria is for "superstar"

hulk hogan made the wwf, he should be way higher….am i wrong?

    where is the ultimate warrior?

    honky tonk man?

    hacksaw?

    john studd?

vince mcmahon is truly an egomaniac

    1. I was a HUGE Macho Man mark as a kid. That being said, no way he belongs higher on the list than Hulk Hogan. My issue isn't with Savage's placement on the list though. 14 seems like a solid spot. NO WAY Hogan should be outside of the top 5.

  2. I think Jeff Hardy deserves to be up there. He and Matt changed the game with the high flying moves in the WWF/E.

    1. I've seen all his moves before. I won't give him credit for that. The Hardys, Edge, and Christian redefined ladder matches. Jeff wasn't very good as champion either.

      1. that's my opinion. I was never a fan of the drug smuggler or i can't find a gimmick that works Hardy but thank you for agreeing that E & C were a better.

      2. The drug trafficker! I almost forgot about that. I was actually in Yuke's Yokohama shortly after he was busted. Whenever I saw him on the screen I referred to him as the drug trafficker. I even called his swanton bomb the drug trafficker. This was all in a JR voice, of course.

      3. I think the thing about Jeff Hardy was that I always felt like he SHOULD be better than he actually was/is. I've always felt like there was a bunch of missing potential there, and there a good chance those high spots combined with the drugs took a severe toll on his body before he ever became what he could have been.

  3. I don't agree with The Big Show being on this list.

Also why is Macho Man's ex gf Gorgeous George on this list! an why is she ranked higher than him! (j/k)

  4. Ok, that's crazy. I'm not a big wrestling fan, but even I know that Hulk Hogan should be in the top five or three, AT LEAST. He helped push WWF into the mainstream in the 80's and 90's. He's like the Super Mario Bros. of wrestling. Of course, this all depends on how you define "Superstar", but still, he needs to be higher. Methinks that this may have something to do with him going over to TNA or whatever the hell it's being called now.

    -M

  5. I agree Ric Flair is the greatest of all time. But Flair did most of his best work elsewhere though. So if it’s a list of top WWE Superstars, then yeah, I get him being lower on the list.

      1. Or Steamboat either for that matter come to think about it. Yeah, I don't get this list. We should just start our own.

      2. Great idea. That's tomorrow's Coffee Talk!

Steamboat's best work was definitely in the NWA, but a lot of people remember his excellent match with savage at WrestleMania III. Compared that to people like Flair, Race, and Rhodes; I don't think any of them had career highlights in WWE/WWF.

      3. I'd argue Flair winning the Royal Rumble was a career Highlight. But it pales in comparison to the old NWA feuds and his days with the Horsemen.

      4. @smartguy

Flair and ricky steamboat were in NWA. If you ever get to see the extended version of stright outta compto, youll see them next to dr dre and ice cube

  6. IMO- Top 5- Hulk, Rock, Steve Austin, Ultimate Warrior, Jerry Lawler.

Top 6 Left out- Bill Goldberg, Ultimate Warrior, Sting, Lita, APA( Faarooq and Bradshaw ), Road Warriors.

  7. Well I have tried reading the top ten or the top 20 list presented in different websites and no ranking seem to be just. I think if we are talking about someone’s contribution in making wwe a brand , then attributes should go to Hulk Hogan nad Shawn Michaels because they actually carried the wwf through difficult times. However when I like to read about the greates wrestler ever, it has to be the combination of the wrestling ability, his selling points, his charisma, and how much people loved or admired him. Therefore this is my list of top 15. Check this out.
    1. The Rock
    2. HHH
    3. Shawn Michaels
    4. Stone Cold Steve Austin
    5. Undertaker
    6. Kurt Angle
    7. Hulk Hogan
    9. John Cena
    10. Edge
    11. Bret Hart
    12. Ric Flair
    13. Ricky Steamboat
    14. Batista
    15. Randy Orton

  8. Okay, Chris Jericho needs to be WAY higher. Not Way but im just saying atleast top 15, he has the most intercontinental title holds stading at 9 and was the first ever undisupted champion and has probably made one of the biggest impacts

  9. I do not agree at all with Batista, Jeffy Hardy, Randy Orton and John Cena being on this list. Randy Orton maybe just because he was the youngest world champion. I would had definitely ranked him in the 40s

  10. i think jeff hardy should be way more higher he is a legend when he jumped from 30ft high pole did any one in WWE do that huh i dont think so u better rank him up and here is my list

    1- Stone cold

    2-HHH

    3-The undertaker

    4-Jeff hardy

    5-shawn michales

    6-Edge

    7-John Cena

    8-Randy orton

    9-Big show

    10-Matt hardy

    11-CM PUNK

i d c who is the rest but those are my 11 top 11 super stars like it or not jeff hardy is the bravest and the best….

  11. 1 taker he is THE ICON THE LEGEND
    2 hbk best perfomer
    3 stone cold best attitude
4 cena best crowd player love en hate 50%
    5 hhh good working wrestler
6 randy good gimmick as HEEL !!!!!
    7 edge good wrestler
8 hogan put wrestling in the maps en views
9 rock the queer can only talk the talk thats it HE LEFT US
10 kurt angle best wrestler of all

    1. Children Please… No one from this new era even belongs in the top 20! with the exception of Randy Orton.
      1. Stone Cold
      2. The Rock
      3. Undertaker
      4. Brett Hart
      5.Ricky Steam Boat
      6.Shawn Michaels
      7.HHH
      8. Hulk Hogan
      9. Ricky Steamboat
      10. Harley Race
      11. Roddy Piper
      12. Randy Savage
      13. Edge
      14. Mick Foley
      15.Andre The Giant.

My top 15 are not Bias its just how the MAJORITY of fans reacted to these superstars, how they affected the company and their merchandise sales.

      1. What about Bruno Sammartino and Gorgeous George? Both of them got bigger fan reactions than anyone. How is Ric Flair NOT in your Top 10? The man took what Gorgeous George did, and sent it into orbit.

Also… Edge is still technically from this gen. Otherwise, you have to count Christian and the Hardyz right there with him because nobody cared who he was until that ladder match.

Now… if we refine the lines a bit to using your guidelines and only wrestlers who wrestled under Vince and how the did it under the WWE/F flag not counting the fact that Vince owns it all now… the Hogan is #1 by far with SCSA #2 and Andre #3. Then Bret Hart, then Rocky.

Hogan held the belt for 4 years straight for a reason, ya know.

  12. If the WWE truly ranked with out Bias Hulk Hogan would be in the top 10, Eddie G wouldnt be so High and neither would Mysterio, quite Honestly though Undertaker has been their the longest he doesnt deserve #2. He would come in at 5-6 on WWE's list if they were'nt Bias.

When i say Non Bias i mean putting feelings aside and see how the superstar was able to carry the company example. Brett Hart should be #1. Stone Cold #2. The Rock #3 (Only because he didnt stay longer or he COULD have been #1.

Undertaker was great but couldnt carry the company on his back, shawn Michaels performance was the BEST until TheRock came and Re-characterized what it means to put on a performance.

  13. jeepers you people are mental.. you way to caught up in the present and forgetting about the past.

jeff hardy is not a good wrestler, and if you were gonna place him high in the ranking just cos he puts his body on the line then jeez Mick Foley would be number one.

Hogan deserves the number one spot since he created wrestling.

thereafter the list should involve those who re-defined wrestling and were a believable champion who could cary the belt well, tho's with the names of shawn, taker, hhh, bret, the rock, flair, austin, cena (even though i hate him), you gotta watch from the 70"s till now till you make your pick and thiose are the names that stick out. @Sukuur, you a lot more realistic (thumbs up)

  14. hulk hogan, the game triple h,ric flair, rko, edge and maybe cena
    must be in top 10
hogan is 14 times world champion
hhh is 13 times world champion and 6 time intercontnental
ric flair is 16 times world champion
edge is 11 times world champion
rko is 9 times world champion

  15. where is the great player chrisbenoit
he is the 1st to get both the World Heavy Weight & United States Championships at a same time
he made more great matches with everyone
so he should be placed in the top 10
