What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I’ll be flying back from Las Vegas tonight after another outstanding DICE Summit. I have tons of thoughts on the show’s programming and some (hopefully interesting) observations on the vibe of the videogame industry. All that aside, I’m really looking forward to firing up my PlayStation 3 for some more Final Fantasy XIII-2. I actually made a slight tactical error before DICE by playing the game through the night instead of sleeping. As incredible as the show was, I kind of miss adventuring with Serah, Noel, and Mog.

How about you? What’s on your weekend playlist?

  1. more modern warfare 3, i just got the official ps3 7.1 headset, so lets see if that gives me any kind of advantage

    1. O.K., seriously, why aren't you guys fighting now? You've called him out, he's said that he's ready and has called you out. Can you guys just settle on some date and time and have at it already? This is getting to be a "Duke Nukem Forever" level of crazy.

      1. Well… I have nothing to prove. I already beat him and then rightfully claimed the RPad.tv championship while he was distracted. The ends justify the means, and he has been beaten so badly already, Sgt. Smartguy is about to pass him up and he wants me to play a game I sold months ago at the moment.

At this point, I just feel sorry for him and fear for his safety when I school him again.

  2. I disagree with Jaffe here on some level. I think games that have compelling characters tell a very good story. Now good and bad is definitely relative granted.

I don't see how this is that much different than the movie industry that he is comparing it to. There are a lot of crap movies, especially during their summer season, than good movies. For example, that shit piece called "Torque" was a summer release.

Personally I think he is just doing some buttressing for Twisted Metal. I won't lie, I have always hated this series and think him a hypocrite for revisiting the franchise. TM has never been known for a story more complex than that of Torque. Honestly American Ninja is a better story.

  3. This weekend, I'm playing Restless. You've never heard of it, because it's a piece of music, not a game. Ah, see what I did there? Yeah, I didn't think it was very funny either.

I'll be on Minecraft most of my free time. I cannot afford new games anyway.

    1. Okay, I actually got a chance to demo the PS Vita today. It's pretty nice, but I wish it didn't require the staff guy to update the system when he tried to demo the game…

      1. Sony can go fly a kite when it comes to me buying another system of theirs. The updates take too long and then unreasonably long to be applied. Pretty sure this is regional though.

      2. 8 minutes for an update on a portable system connected to a bad internet connection is pretty darn good, I'd say. With my home internet speed, I'm looking at 4, maybe 5 minutes.

      3. With my home connection of 35down 4 up it takes an hour to pull down 90-100mb update on PSN. I'll pass.

      4. Yikes. That sounds bad. At least you could update your portable while out and about, and not worry about updating at your house. That would fix the speed issues, unless your buddies don't have good internet either.

      5. Aw, that's too bad. Hey, do you think they'll put updates on the cartridges like they did with UMDs? Because then you wouldn't have to update via the internet!

      6. Got a better demo session today at a local Gamestop. Uncharted looks and plays great, FIFA 12 is really fun (as usual), Gravity Rush is possibly my new favorite platform adventure game, Little Deviants has a fun AR shooting game (or, it would be fun IF the system wasn't tethered by a cord), and WipEout's loading times are crap.

      1. Good thing is, even with a bad internet connection the update was finished in under 8 minutes. He had a second Vita, too, so everything worked out. They only had Little Deviants, though.

  4. Swtor, la noire ( I just finished 3 cases on vice) and nba2k12 (the my player option is very addicting)

    1. Between working and celebrating Valentine's day on Sunday/Tuesday during the day I will probably be playing nba 2k12 also. I can attest to the My Player option being addicting. Overall I like this version of the game better than the 2k8 version that my wife and I are used to playing. The only things I don't like so far are that (as far as I can tell) you cannot choose any two teams you want to go head to head, and there is nothing that tells me whether I am releasing my shots early or late when I miss. The former would be nice when two people are playing, and the latter would be great in order to learn individual player styles or just to be able to not suck it up when playing with an unfamiliar team. In 2k8 being told you were releasing your shots late/early was really helpful with adjusting to new players. These options might be around, but I haven't really seen them easily yet.

      1. Idk how to set up a two player game only an online game but it should be just moving the cursor down to the home or away team and pushing the LB or RB buttons or the RT or LT ones. I agree with getting feedback on the shots even if it's after the game. My issue with it mainly is that when ur playing against someone online you have to choose a player to be, i.e. if you choose the bulls and choose to be Derrick Rose that whole game your Rose. You can't switch off to other players on ur team.

      2. I didn't know that about the online play, I will add that to a list of things I don't like about the game. That basically just means I'll be choosing Derrick Rose, LBJ, etc. each time I play an online game then.

Also, the two player thing was mostly just me not messing around with the game enough. Knowing whether I am releasing early or late on my shots is still the most advantageous way of learning how to get better in the game and I haven't been doing too well early on because of that not being an option.

  5. SWTOR & SoulCalibur V. I had been playing NHL 12, but I just popped it back in the envelope to send back to Gamefly.

The wife is playing Skylanders and Final Fantasy XIII-2.

  6. I have been trying to play Gotham City Imposters but the PSN was down all day, not sure if it is back yet. Still can't get StarHawk to work because the updates fail.

Playing Darkness 2. Story has gotten crazy, hoping it ends well

      1. Oh ok. Well let me look into getting the game. I'd have to start a new character because I'm at the end and there's no going back for me with that character

  7. I hear that Gotham City Imposters is pretty much a poor-man's Team Fortress 2 with a Batman coat of paint.
