Completely Fascinated by the iPad 2’s Smart Cover

It’s totally overpriced, but I’m completely fascinated by the iPad 2 Smart Cover accessory. Check out the video above and you’ll see why. The design is just very, very clever. The magnetic latch gives the Smart Cover a seamless feel. The way it folds into a stand for two different viewing positions — one for typing and one for watching — is a piece of brilliant design. Still, $39 for a polyurethane cover and $69 for a leather cover is a lot to pay for something that isn’t a full protective case…but I’m sure that won’t stop Apple from selling millions of these things.

What do you think of the Smart Cover? Are you as charmed by it as I am? Or do you think it’s a woefully overpriced accessory?

  1. It looks cool and functional. But it's usefulness sort of depends on price. I wouldn't want to pay too much for an accessory like that.

      1. Personally I hate how Apple products have been called magical. There's nothing magical about them, they are all man made and created to work in a specific way that they were intended for. I wouldn't want to overpay for an accessory though no matter what it was for.

      2. Damn, man. You know that when Steve Jobs uses the iToilet, feces don't come out of his anus, rather when the man takes a crap, only rainbows and leprechauns riding miniature multi-colored unicorns come out of his rear end.

If that's not magical, I don't know what is.

      3. Now that would be something that could be considered magical! The Apple products that are deemed "magical" though are constructed using series of 1's and 0's and that a team of coders actually input themselves into a machine in order to create the particular item, or they are physically constructed by a design team and then put into mass production for mass retail sale. Real human beings like you and me are the ones making these things—there is nothing "magical" about intelligence and hard work.

      4. You totally forgot about the pixie dust. My brother-in-law's brother actually works for Apple and he told me that it tastes like paprika.

  2. I think this is a pretty kool *magical* accessory. If i wanted to take the plunge and get an ipad, i would get this too.

  3. Can somebody lobby Apple to make an "iBlanket" out of this thing. All I want is a much bigger version of the smart cover and place a few magnets on the side of my bed.

… Somebody should really get on that and make a YouTube video out of it.
