Microsoft Announces Xbox 360 Kinect Pricing: $149.99

Microsoft has officially announced the pricing for its Kinect motion controller for Xbox 360: $149.99. The package includes Kinect Adventures. The company also announced an Xbox 360 bundle with Kinect included. Customers can pick up an Xbox 360 (slim model with 4GB storage) with Kinect and Kinect Adventures for $299.99. The console alone will cost $199.99.

Naturally, I’m dying to hear what you think of Kinect’s price. Too much? Just right?

It’s a lot when you compare it to the PS3. at 149.99 that’s $50 more and you might as well buy a Wii. it seemed too buggy or glitchy for me. I’m going to pass but the 4GB 360S does pique my interest. i wonder if i can expand the memory with external storage or with flash cards?

@Big Blak Nope, MS is going with a 4GB model that’s the equivalent of an “Arcade Slim”.

@Tokz

You can expand it with an inexpensive usb drive, up to 16gb. In all honesty if the new 360 S runs the games smoother and quieter, and all you are doing is saving games maybe doing a couple of small things- 20gb total should be enough space.

Most of the room on my 60gb hdd is taken up because I download games to my hdd so that they run quieter and smoother while using less power. Take those all away and the next highest thing is the downloaded content which is either game add-ons or arcade games.

Wait so I can get a Slimbox 360 (trademarked be-otch!) for 199.99 with a 4gb hdd? Effing ridiculous!!! I’m telling you all right now there will be a price drop of $50 before the end of the year. I think M$ is overcharging for it now and when it doesn’t sell they will drop the price to make it seem like we are saving money and they are loosing it.

@bsu
thanks for the info. so if this is true then i can use my usb sd card reader throw in like a 32gb or a 64gb and it should work too, right?

@bsukenyan It’s always a good idea to install a game to a hard drive if you have the space. The less the hard drive spins, the longer the Xbox 360 will last.

@All Keep in mind that the 4GB model isn’t geared towards people like you. Part of the reason for Kinect’s being is to capture the mainstream audience (i.e. pull a Wii). The 4GB model should be fine for mainstream consumers. Remember the unofficial theme of E3 2010? “It’s Not for You!”

@Tokz

You can only do 16gb max per usb drive. I don’t know why they made that limit, but I have a feeling part of the reason is so that you still buy a bigger hard drive.

@Ray

Yes that is true, but some games run better when they are not installed to the hard drive. I believe Halo 3: ODST was a game that Bungie specifically said should not be installed because the game would run slower if that was done.

probably did that to keep people from connecting external hdd.
I can live 36gb for my 360. I have a 20gb now so it will be an upgrade if i dual wield 16gb usb drives. It looks like i have a winner.

Yeah I think it would be pretty good setup. I will still probably go with the 250gb hdd eventually just because I will find some way to use the space someday. It would be nice to just hook up an external hdd, but the usb drives really aren’t a bad alternative I don’t think.

If you dual-wield hard drives on an Xbox 360, does one of them suffer a penalty like when you dual-wield swords in D&D?

You just have to make sure the offhand drive is slower than the main hand drive. Then you are good!

My sister just turned 20 and I can’t stand to hear her speak. She uses the word like way too much. I actually said something to her last time i saw her and she had no idea she used it that much. I fear for this society as a whole that people are dumb and don’t realize it.

@smartguy That reminds me of a story about my friend Mitch. He was all over the place in college, but could always talk. He convinced his student advisor that three minors was as good as a major and she tried to make it happen for him. We were both amused the he pulled it off.

How the hell do you get a minor without a major? I don’t think you can do that with the accreditation board for our region. That’s funny though lol.

Three minors? wow. It almost makes more sense in some instances to have a lot of minors instead of a major. Diversity and knowledge of many things can be useful traits when seeking employment, so having minors in lots of things could work out I guess. I’m curious…what three minors did he attempt?

Author Jul 21, 2010
10:53 am

@smartguy, @bsukenyan He eventually learned that it wasn’t possible. I don’t think he had any minors in mind actually. It’s funny — he was a total cut-up in school and now he’s a highly respected member of the district attorney’s office in Queens. Ha!

But you have one lol. I think a degree is over valued too often. I also think there are jobs that def require them. An accountant for one. Anyone can be a bookkeeper, but an accountant is different and a CPA even more so. I’m taking the LSAT in September, so granted my view might be a bit skewed lol.
