What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I’m almost done with my second round of Dragon Age: Origins. I still need to go through all the origins and get a few more Achievements. After that, I’m going to work on a character that I want to use for the sequel. I’m thinking a city-elf rogue that will specialize in assassin and duelist skills. Then again, it’s always tempting to go human noble because of the…uh…land owning possibilities.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance slider

Aside from that, I told my friend at Sony that I’d play some Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 with him. Surprisingly, I haven’t opened my copy yet. I love action-RPGs and comics, so you’d think I’d be all over this one. Normally, that would be the case, but the came out in September when I was flying all over Asia and at the end of the month…well, you know what happened. Anyway, I know I’m going to love this one, despite its flaws.

As always, I want to know what you’re playing this weekend!

  1. I'm going to try and put a lot of time in to Dragon Age this weekend.

    I was trying to hold off on AC2 until I beat DA once but I don't think I can wait any longer

  2. Sadly I will be playing the role of a student. Its coming up on Finals week. I still have yet to finish playing through Uncharted 2 on Hard, R&C aCiT a second time, Demon's Souls (the first dang level), and I haven't got to play Borderlands since I bought it.

    Plus now I need to go get all the new games that came out. I knew I would get behind with the releases being the way they are.

  3. @slicky – have you not finished the first level of Demon's Souls for difficulty reasons? I'm still hesitant about that game but it's on my backlog

  4. Assassin's Creed 2. I will kill it until it dies… and then I will find another pigeon mission and kill it again. Plus I have reasons to do everything. So far, outside of some minor concerns from the free running during the races that are scattered about, I have nothing bad to say about it. Returning to the crazy templar conspiracy, especially with the new database function, it just awesome.

    @N8R – How far are you in Arkham? I know most would find this unbelievable, but I wasn't able to step away from it my first three times through.

  5. MW2 will take up all my time, but I would like to get some L4D2 time in. When will publishers learn that weekday releases suck. No one has time to squeeze in a second game during the week. Oh and I'm getting close to prestigeing in MW2 and have completed the campaign. Once I prestige, all I will have left is to finish SpecOps and then I can finally make up my mind about this game.

  6. @Shockwave

    No its a matter of free time. Since I am unable to pause the game, I have to make sure and a lot enough time to get through the first level or it is a waste of time. The first time I started into the first level it wasn't difficult it was just a matter of getting used to how you are about to be attacked and knowing where it is going to come from. I have only had time to sit down with the game twice. My younger brother is in the second level, the first took him around 4 hours total, but after he died the last time and was taken back to the nexus entrance, its was like a 10 walk to the boss and beat him in 5 minutes.

    I still have yet to figure Demon's Souls out all the way, but so far I can't say it is enjoyable, but I haven't given it much of a chance yet.

  7. @slicky – thanks. I probably just need to rent it to decide finally. I doubt it's a game I'd enjoy.

    Now if only I could remember where that store is that rents movies and games? with the blue and gold logo. Lackluster Video or something like that…. I'll google it

  8. @Shockwave: I really liked the original despite it's flaws. This one does feel more well rounded and complete. The story's a bit more linear, but I think that works well for this type of game. The openness of the world gives you a lot of options of HOW to do things, so you don't feel the hook pulling at your mouth the way some other games will just pull you along (insert most FPS's here).

  9. @nightshade – nice. I do like a good open world game. how does the combat compare? once I got the combat down in the first game I did feel like a total badass

  10. @Shockwave: They didn't really change the combat much, they just added a few new wrinkles. My favorite is the larger weapons. You don't try to counter guards with larger weapons, instead you put your weapon away, disarm them (using the counter controls) and then kill them with thier own weapon. Awesomeness.

  11. @nightshade – sounds good to me. I'm looking forward to a new set of weapons to bash people with. Although I'm not sure how a guy in a white hood and a giant mace can blend in to the crowd. I like the real life video of Assassins Creed from Mega 64

  12. STILL working on Oblivion. My god, that game is freaking huge! The main quest is relatively short, but all the side quests add about 40 more hours to the game. Damn my completionist tendencies!

    I'm thinking about Batman; AA or Assassin's Creed 2 after all of this crap from Cyrodill is over (and the expansion packs as well). All this talk about AC2 makes me think back fondly to AC1… although that "ending" left a bad taste in my mouth. Also the climax was convoluted and flies in the face of the spirit of the game. And the missions were so repetitive. And I couldn't go more than 2 mph on my horse in the over world without people trying to kill me for some unknown reason. And some of the missions really didn’t make any sense. And the A.I. was wonky at times.

    ….

    Batman it is.

  13. I'm bad about starting games but never finishing them, then buying more games. Think this weekend I'll be shuffling thru my games and pull out something to actually complete. I know I've got a long line of ps2 ones that need touching, and not in that oh baby right there kinda way :P

  14. @nightshade – ya it took me over 200 hours to get all the achievements for that one. completing oblivion is no small task

  15. i need to finish uncharted 2 on crushing, and collect all treasha!

    terence: HEY PHILIP! LETS LOOK FOR TREASHA!

    philip: ALRYT PHILIP! LETS LOOK FOR TREASHA! *fart*

    both: AHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA!

  16. @Iceman – you won't be disappointed with Batman, but they fixed 95% of what you were talking about between AC1 and AC2. I loved the way AC1 ended and it fits perfectly with the continuing arc of the fiction they have come up with. Extremely deep and cool.

    @N8R – In that case, you are in for a treat of a game.

  17. @CamiKitten;

    LOL! Have fun touching your games in a non-arousing fashion. I once drew a chick in my sketch book wearing nothing but a bikini made of video game cases.

    Unfortunately, people like Mr. Padilla would do away with my precious dream of making a video game box bikini a reality since he is a champion of digital distribution and doing away with the beautiful world of video game box art. Well, once I get my "designer" bikini on a real model, I'll bet you I can change his mind.

  18. @RPAD – I think cars are evil for taking away the horse drawn carriage. you just don't see those enough anymore.. damn technology ruins everything :)

  19. @shockwave

    Demon's Souls is quite fun. Worth the cash my friend. It's hard, but a good hard. You can't just hack n' slash your way through it. Takes a bit of cunning.

  20. @Iceman;

    Ha! If it was a thong bikini, you'd have to get a ds case to fit that just right hahaha.

  21. Naughty Kitten. (Hey! That sounds like a good name for a game studio.

    @Nightshade;

    It doesn't matter. You are not going to be looking at the box art, anyway.

    -M

  22. @iceman I'm sure Naughty Dog would love that.

    @Nightshade386 Yeah, I've been aware of the plot mangling since before the game's release. I'll roll my eyes and laugh at some of the changes, but it won't bother me too much. I'll keep the trade paperbacks next to me to keep it real.

    @CamiKitten [In my best Mortal Kombat voice] Finish them!!!

    @Shockwave562 They still had them in Central Park when up until I left NY in 2000. The horses just smelled up the park.

  23. I just rented Left 4 Dead 2… Couldn't afford to buy it until next month, but couldn't wait either. :)
