What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I’m almost definitely not playing videogames this weekend. For some reason, I woke up with a pounding headache this morning (without the benefit of being drunk the night before). I should be receiving a Motorola Droid 2 for review tomorrow. THQ is having an event for the outstanding WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 on Saturday, which will be followed by Summer Slam on Sunday. Some San Francisco friends are going to stop by on their drive up from Disney. I also need to go to the post office. There’s no time for games (sadly)!

Actually, I still have games of Wordfeud on Android going with some of you — I’ll definitely be playing those. I’ll even cut off The Miz during our interview just to play with you guys. Ha! So…what’s on your weekend playlist?!?

  1. Probably some MUA2.

I might pick something else up over the weekend, but I don't know what. I'm probably gonna pre order both Dead Rising 2 and Fallout New Vegas. I'm just pondering where to pre order based on the bonuses.

  2. Steelers play the Lions tomorrow. If I can find a way to see it, that's what I'm doing at 4:30 PT.

    @ RROD

4 weeks, then we're coming for your team.

My younger Bro is moving to Verizon this weekend and wants to know what their best phone is. He wants Android and he wants to be able to tether (preferably for free).

He has been looking at the Droid X and CNET says the Droid Incredible is Verizon's bet phone. I value y'all's input more so any clues on what he should get?

  4. *sigh* Blip.tv cancelled my account and won't restore it. Apparently posting developer diaries counts as posting marketing content. Those @ssholes could have just asked me to remove the diaries. Time to look for a new video service that isn't run by a bunch of knobs!

  5. @Ray

Thanks I was just telling him about your review on the Droid X and was looking for the article. He is worried about the overall size of the phone. I suggested he read your review and then head up to Verizon to see how big it actually is.

  6. @slicky

he can also check out the Droid2. that's out right? i saw the cnet preview/review and it's pretty sweet. it has swype text feature and w/froyo from the start.

  7. @tokz_21 Yes, that came out yesterday. The Droid X also has Swype and will be getting FroYo shortly. I'm almost positive that I will not like the Droid 2's 3.7-inch screen compared to the Droid X's. It's tough going back after you get used to a 4.3-inch screen.

  8. @rpad

really i guessed i missed that part of it in your review. then it's either between the Droid X or Droid 2. I would go to for the Droid 2 so i can get that awesome r2d2 one.

  9. I agree. Every friday we go out to dinner with friends. One has the EVO and the other has the X. The 3.5 on the Iphone 4 looks very nice, but it is no replacement for screen real estate. The larger screen just seems more natural and intuitive on a multimedia device.

  10. @Slicky

If you go to Verizon, there is no excuse not to get the Droid X. That device is beastly. Once Froyo is out for it, a simple one click root will give him tethering.

  11. I'm about to play some Left 4 Dead 2 for a little while, but I'm not sure what else I will be playing. I want to pick up something new but I don't know what and I will probably just get something off of XBLA to keep me going. I'm really not sure what I want to play next though.

  12. I need to recover from the brain-twisting, mind-bending whirlwind of deep thought that is Braid with some dumbed-down, stupid, point-and-shoot fun. And as you can see from my new Gravatar, I'll be playing Halo 3 multi-player this weekend trying to get the "Lightswitch" and two zombie achievements that I'm missing. I also have "Killtacular" left, but I seriously doubt I'm ever going to get that one in a normal playlist. From what I've seen/heard, the best way to get that is in the Griffball game type that only comes around on special weekends. It was almost an act of god that I got "overkill", but five kills in five seconds is damn near impossible for me.

If anybody wants to join me, just drop me a line while I'm on. I enjoy fragging with friends.

    -M

  13. @Iceman

I might join you if I can get some free time to play online this weekend. I am going to rent a disc with the mythic map playlists on it so I can find some of the skulls for the achievements and maybe some of the play achievements, I just don't know when I will have free time to get that.

Are you going for the 45 minute speed run of Braid? I tried for that a long time ago when I knew those levels inside and out and I could not quite get it. I would love to complete that game though.

  14. Hmmm a little bit of Dante's Inferno, a little bit of DQIX, and a little bit of Fallout 3 GotY lol. First time I've really gotten my hands on the expansions. And while I'm not gaming I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be watching season 1 & 2 of Thundercats that my "cousin" got me while he was stationed in Iraq for the last year. He just hit American soil last Sat. So I'm excited.

  15. I’ll probably try to get further in FF13 and play some Demon’s Souls. oh and some Dragon Age if it comes in today. I’m impressed with Blockbuster so far i got D.S. a day earlier than estimated. I just wished i could rent new releases instead of waiting.

I have a question for anyone who’s played FF13. Is selling things from your inventory the only way to get xp to upgrade weapons and accessories, if so then i don’t like that part of the game.

  16. Wordfeud profile is Big13blak. I effed it up with the l33t B lmao. I’m heading to the dentists in a few hours to get some teeth pulled and extended and canal’d. Not looking for to this. Depending on the swelling and or drugs im on I might be watching an ass load of movies on netflix.

  17. @ R to the P to the A to the D

Did the Droid 2 come in, I'm dying to hear what you think of it.

  18. "The internet is to the English language as the zombie apocalypse is to humanity."- therealcliffyB. Thought that quote was hilarious.

Well I'm out wasting I mean spending a night out at a bunch of college type bars. I know I'm in college and everything and should enjoy this, but the whole try to be trendy college bar scene got old a long time ago and I'd rather be doing almost anything else right now. Thank god for free wifi for the moment.

  19. @ SG

I thought the Droid X had some kind of kill switch engaged (like that lol) in it when you try to root it or is that the Droid?

  20. @BB

They both have it actually. Motorola doesn't invoke it though. The X has already been rooted. In fact it has a one button root and a root where you don't use a PC.

  21. Rooted (1-click root method) my phone today just so I could take screenshots.

Now what the heck do you do with a rooted phone???? Nothing really seems different except the Superuser thing.

  22. @slicky

you should be able to install custom roms now. Low voltage kernel to increase battery life, you can remove bloatware. When 2.2 comes to the Galaxy series once you root the device, you can wifi tether w/o paying ATT $20 for the privilege of using your 2gb data in that capacity.

    @BB

Iphone 4 32gb. A month ago I was super thrilled at my purchase, now since I'm seeing all of these large screen Android devices hit the market, I am going to have to abandon ship. I'm waiting for TMo to hook up HSPA+ in my area before I jump to their service. Sprint is nonexistant down here and I am opposed on principle to go to Verizon. Though I have thought about giving them a second chance because of the X.

  23. @SG

I was looking at the custom ROMs and stuff but some forums had said to get the Froyo update OTA I would have to put my phone back to stock to get it. Also I saw that many of the ROMS look nice but can bog down the phone more than they aid it.

I am trying to figure out what the big deal with CyanogenMod is. It doesn't seem to add anything I would want bad enough to wipe my entire phone for.

  24. @slicky

I'd just grab an unofficial froyo since you are rooted. The OTA one will no doubt be crippled by ATT. I'd also look for a way to remove touchwiz. That is a resource hog I'm reading. Stock android plus froyo and you will have a brand new device.

The low kernel rom is worth it.

  25. @SG

I heard that Samsung has considered doing away with Touchwiz in the subsequent releases anyway, but that was just something someone told me THEY heard too. There are already unofficial Froyos out there but they are really buggy currently and the Android Market stops working as does screen rotation and the proximity sensor. Also Flash won't work. So I will just keep holding out a bit longer on changing anything.

My hopes when getting the Galaxy S phone was that there would be a large enough dev. community for it to get stuff out there quickly, I hope I didn't make a bad choice. That is one thing I have to give to Apple (or at least its followers) is the dev community size and speed.

  26. @slicky

Give it time. Android community seems to move quickly. I could see Sansung ditching Touchwiz. They are a good hardware company but do horrible software. No custom skin would speed up development.
