Superman Unbound Trailer

Here’s the trailer for Superman Unbound, DC’s upcoming animated film based on Geoff Johns’ acclaimed Superman: Brainiac run. In addition to Superman and Brainiac, Kal-El’s cousin Kara Zor-El is a prominent player in the story. This makes me happy, because Supergirl is totally hot. More seriously, I really enjoy Superman storylines that cover Kryptonian history. Hearing about Kandor, Zod, and the like fleshes out Superman’s Kryptonian heritage. A lot of writers focus on his wholesome upbringing in Smallville, but dude is an alien and it’s fun to explore that side of him.

Kindly check out the trailer when you have a chance and let me know if you’re interested in Superman Unbound. How do you think it’ll measure up against DC’s other excellent animated features like Batman: Under the Red Hood and The Dark Knight Returns?

  1. I’m looking forward to this animated film, but I would like to see either more Justice League movies or something other than Batman or Superman.

Right now seems like the perfect time to give Aquaman his own movie, or maybe Green Arrow. Both of those characters would be advantageous for a couple different reasons. Aquaman because of the revamp his image has had since the New 52 came out (despite that Robot Chicken special); Green Arrow (personal choice) because there is interest in the character due to his CW show and this could be a way to get some of the people who watch the show to watch his and other DC animated movies.

If they wanted to go another way the Teen Titans would finally be a good choice, especially since people seem to be upset with Young Justice being cancelled and people might want more content with these characters.

    1. I’m still annoyed that the Teen Titans’ “Judas Contract” storyline got killed as an animated feature. That would have been excellent.

      1. That’s actually what I was thinking of when I mentioned the Young Justice/Teen Titans option for a movie. I’d love to see something along those lines done.

      2. The rumor is that it was killed because of arguments over whether or not to leave the Deathstroke/Terra relationship as it was in the books.

      3. I believe other DC animated films have stayed fairly true to their print counterparts, no? But if memory serves this was supposed to be the first actual DC animated film and they eventually went with Superman: Doomsday instead. It’s a shame they never went back to that idea, considering they had it in the first place but have never used the Teen Titans as the basis for a movie. With as many as they have now, and the pace at which they are producing them, you’d think odds are that they would revisit this notion; hopefully one day soon.

      4. Most of them have been faithful to the source material, but the problem with The Judas Contract is an adult having a sexual relationship with a 15-year old girl.
