Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Victor Ortiz being a quitter, dramatic encounters with an ex, or Thai Airways’ amazing service, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

The French Open recently finished and Wimbledon kicks off today. In the span of a month, the two most prestigious tournaments in the sport take place. This is the best time of the year to be a tennis fan. Naturally, as a videogame nerd I’ve been thinking about my favorite tennis videogames. As a huge fan of the sport and someone that played the game fervently in high school, I pretty much love all tennis videogames.

That said, there are two that hold a special place in my heart. Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast was critically acclaimed and I loved it. It was especially fun since so many of my friends were into the game and wanted to play multiplayer. However, Mario Tennis 64 was the better — and surprisingly more accurate — game. As a videogame, it was just more fun. As a pseudo-simulation, it allowed you to do more things with the ball in terms of spin and angles. To this day, Mario Tennis 64 is my all-time favorite tennis videogame.

How about you? What are some of your favorite tennis videogames?

  1. Yes! Mario Tennis 64 was my game! I never followed tennis enough to play the sim-sports games. Ut
    Mario ones are great.

Ortiz = quitter this is why i never liked him as a boxer and why mexicans should never be raised or adopted by white people.

Dramatic encounters with an ex; i have those here and there. Theyre stressful and not worth it, but its hard to let go *sigh* thanks a lot Ray! Now im all depressed.

    1. I'm not going to give Ortiz too much flack. Dude had a broken jaw. Yes, fighters like Ali and Whitaker finished fights with broken jaws, but they're all-time greats. Ortiz is just good. Even proud Mexican champions like Genaro Hernandez quit.

      1. A broken jaw is understandable but u have to believe that ur winning the fight. You can clearly hear his corner telling him to suck it up and not to quit. Also this isnt the first time he quit.Btw ur a jinx rpad. My ex emailed me today. Thx.

      2. Apparently his jaw was broken in two places and one of his arteries burst. I think this was a very different case of quitting versus the way he want out against Maidana.

      3. This is true; i just dont feel hes lived up to the hype people are giving him credit for.

      4. That train's gone. Few people think he'll be great, but that doesn't mean he can't have a decent career. I think he can be an Arturo Gatti-type fighter — exciting stuff, but not at the top level of the sport.

      1. Turns out that my wife had enough "points" at work to get us a new 250G. I'll be picking it up at Best Buy when they open today. She came up with that idea this morning, which just about made my day. Nothing like not having to pay for a new system. Now I just have to see if I can remember how the transfer cable works.

      2. Lucky! Im just waiting for a good deal on ps3s. Just saving up money more than likely until black friday.

      3. I bought a second ps3 today off craigslist

Got a 160 gb model with 2 games for 150 dollars. Then, went over to gamestop and picked up that Sony 3d display for 200 bucks. I finally found a price point that i was comfortable with.

      4. Craiglist is suspect to me cuz i dont want set something up and the guy knows im already coming with money; so whats to stop him from taking my money and ps3.

      5. No, I agree. I was very hesitant to buy ANYTHING off craigslist. This was my first time.

I realize that my experience might not be indicative of the average experience, but the transaction couldnt have gone smoother. That guy was super nice, and actually threw in extra stuff. Awesome experience, and i never thought I'd say that. There ARE good people out there, I will be much less cynical about Craigslist from now on.

      1. No, but it does get awfully hot here in the summer….which might possibly help to explain the loss of 4 (one XBOX, and all 3 360's) of the 8 consoles.

Obviously, there was known issues with both the early Ps2's and early XBOX 360's, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. The Ps2's we have now are much newer models and haven't had any problems at all years after we got them. My new 360 is one of the new black ones, so hopefully the days of waiting for the RRoD are over too.
