This Week’s Videogame Releases

I rarely include downloadable games in this recurring feature. I’m fairly certain that I’ve never featured one. All that’s out the window with Journey on PlayStation Network. I’m a total homer for ThatGameCompany and Flower. If Journey looks remotely interesting to you, then please buy it. I love when games like Journey do well and companies like TGC succeed. Show ’em some love, if you’re so inclined.

In other news, Silent Hill: Downpour blends precipitation and survival horror (rain is scary!). FIFA Street adds arcade-style gameplay to the most beloved sport in the world. Fans of Japanese RPGs will want to keep an eye on Tales of Graces F. Ridge Racer is now available for the Vita, which is fun because it allows you to think of Kaz Hirai saying, “Riiiiiiiidge Racer!” Since I missed out on this last week, I have to check if any of you picked up Mass Effect 3.

Any of you buying new games this week? Also, buy Journey (please)!!!

  1. Beat ME3 and am on my second playthrough. I love 99.5% of it. That part is possibly the best game I've ever played.

The last .5% (the ending) is either a disturbingly confusing mess, or the one of the more interesting plot twists I can remember. I honestly can't figure it all the way out yet. I'm obviously hoping for the later.

Either way, it's a very worthy purchase for fans of the series.

Nothing on this week's docket for me.

  2. Hey, how's it going? I almost fainted from excitement when I read that PS Plusers were going to get this game a week early. I haven't gotten to play much of it yet (which will happen when you have a 9 mo. old), but what I've experienced is pretty darn beautiful.

    1. It's going pretty okay! Congrats on your DLC (videogame industry nerds call new kids DLC or expansion packs). Would love to hear more about your Journey thoughts when you've played more. It's definitely fun to play this game and share experiences — very much a coffeehouse game for me.

    2. For real, congrats on baby Redd (or maybe even Pinkk75… I don't know).

Either way, it won't be long until the young one is as interested if not more interested in games than you are.
