Watch Chris Jericho’s Return to WWE Raw!

Here’s a video clip of Chris Jericho’s return to the WWE on last night’s episode of Raw. It was unusual and brilliant at the same time. Let’s talk about the unusual part first. Jericho, one of the best talkers the WWE has had in the last decade, didn’t say much. He soaked up the cheers, played the crowd, and smiled in an exaggerated way. Every now and then he screamed Come on baby!!!” and “Yeah!!!”, but he didn’t say anything substantive. Everyone was expecting one of his classic promos, but it never came.

His return was just genius. He completely played the live crowd and the television audience. People are going to be tuning in next week to see what he’s all about. It was a fantastic swerve that nobody could have predicted.

While I’m sure that he was genuinely excited to perform in front of a WWE crowd again, I’m going to guess that the smiling was disingenuous as far as his character is concerned. I can see him berating the crowd next week for cheering him like a returning hero. He’ll mock them for reacting to his return that way when he thinks they’re all hypocrites, parasites, sycophants, and gelatinous tapeworms.

Then again, maybe he won’t. Jericho’s return has people wondering what will happen next and his character has an awesome unpredictability that should be milked. I don’t know where he’s going with this run, but I can’t wait to find out.

What did you think of Chris Jericho’s return to WWE Monday Night Raw?

  1. I'd like to see Jericho finally get a turn with the big strap as a face. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's only had it as a heel that I can recall, and the first time they put it on him the writing made him look like a weak champion DESPITE winning over both The Rock and Stone Cold on the same night to win it.

  2. Well, he's primed right now for the face. Not to mention that the WWE is down a big face right now with Orton out. Most of the matches I wanna see him work are against heels.

This will only make his inevitable heel turn all the greater. I think he can really help Daniel Bryan to the next plateau as well. Jericho really is the best they got now.

  3. Do u think he will make a smack down appearance and if he does will he work the crowd like he did on raw? If love to see him stay as a heel and go after cm punk. Also I'm getting tired of laurinitis, I miss Vince.

    1. Not sure. I'd love to see him on both shows, but I wonder if they're going to limit him to the flagship show initially. Jericho has been so smart at reinventing his character. I'm thinking he doesn't want to overexpose himself.
