Amazon Android Tablet By Samsung Coming This Summer?

It’s a sure thing that Amazon will deliver some sort of Android device in the near future. Nobody is sure whether it will be a tablet or a phone. Nobody is sure which hardware manufacturer will be making the device. Nobody except GDGT’s Peter Rojas, that is. He recently wrote:

It’s something of an open secret that Amazon is working on an Android tablet and I am 99% certain they are having Samsung build one for them.

All the pieces are there for Amazon. The company has its own Android store, video-on-demand service, and streaming music service. It’s already the leader in digital book sales. The company has an opportunity to shake up the mobile market by offering a comparatively cheap tablet, selling it at cost or at a loss and then making up for it with sales of digital apps, movies, TV shows, music, and books.

If Amazon releases an Android tablet by Samsung this summer, would you be interested in buying one?

  1. I just wish ANY of these tablets that everyone keeps talking about would drop. I know they are all coming soon, but they have been talking them all up so long, that I am starting to reconsider if I even want one.

    1. Xoom came out when it was supposed to. So did the Playbook. The HTC Flyer looks like it will be available when the company said it would be. What's the issue?

      1. The issue is that there was supposed to be a large number of Android tablets, Slates, & WebOS based tabs coming out all at once (or very close) and so far they are trickling out and are all very lackluster and over-priced for what they are. I am hoping for a sudden market saturation and price drop across the board. I refuse to sign a contract for a Xoom, why should I have to pay for internet when I already have it on my phone. I want the WiFi only version, but I know as soon as I do the price will bottom out.

The Playbook came out, but it is unfinished. The are adding support for many other things that probably should have already been there later. Also since I don't own a BB anymore I would even get the full functionality. I'll never own another BB either. 6 hours straight of tech support w/ BB and they still wouldn't admit it was defective hardware (refurb warranty replacement phone).

      2. What was announced that didn't make its date? The Xoom WiFi is available. I don't think HP announced a date for the TouchPad. The HTC Flyer is set for a Q2 release. The LG G Slate is out. I'm not sure what else was given a hard date.

      3. Oh I wasn't referring to an actual date, just that 'they' were saying they would all be out all at once. Everyone manufacturer and their dog was/is putting out an Android tablet, but there are still so few on the market.

I knew the Xoom WiFi was available, but it just isn't worth that much. There is nothing about a it that would enable me to justify dropping that amount of cash on it.

I have been considering something WAY cheaper like the Viewsonic 10.1 G-tablet. Those are at least priced more along the lines of what I feel they should be.

      4. Dude, we're not even four months into the year. Besides, Android tablets are generally disappointing. The Asus Transformer looks to be the first interesting one.

      5. I know its too soon to complain, but thats what I meant in the OP about they have been talking about them so dang long.
