Today’s Poll: Engraving Consumer Electronics Devices

So I’m getting an iPad 2 for work purposes. I should head to one of the two local Apple Stores and buy it so that I can quickly take video, do some benchmarks, and set it up. However, I don’t want to deal with any lines (it won’t be that bad, will it?) and I like to get my Apple products engraved. I think it’s cool that Apple let’s you add custom messages to its products.

What do you think? Is engraving cool or lame? Is it worth waiting an extra couple of days for a more personal touch? Kindly take today’s poll and discuss!

  1. I chose it ruins resale value because well it does especially if a person is buying for someone one else.

  2. No, I like to resell some of my items. The engraving makes it pretty difficult.

  3. I would pay good money for someone to do this gag:

Order an iPad or iPhone with custom engraving on the back that reads: "I love penises". Then, once you receive it, sell it on eBay and post all the questions received about the item on the web page.

I would love to know how much people would be willing to pay for such an item, especially if it is brand new/not used. Obviously, it won’t deter some people from purchasing it, but it would be interesting to see if picturing the item will violate eBay’s terms of sale.

  4. I have NEVER resold an electronic device. I usually keep them or give them away to friends who need them. I would totally get SlickyFats engraved on anything I bought.
