This Week’s Videogame Releases

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is getting a ton of buzz from hardcore fighters and casual fans alike. I’m not really sure how Viewtiful Joe stands a chance against the Hulk, but the kids are loving it. RPG fans looking for something quirky and imaginative will want to give Hyperdimensional Neptunia a look. If you’re behind in all things Gears then Gears of War Triple Pack will save your day.

The games that have my super excited are a pair of portable RPGs. The Nintendo DS has Dragon Quest VI, while the PSP has Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. I’ve been psyched for the Tactics Ogre remake since it was announced last July. I can’t wait to play!

Any of you picking up new games this week?

I've got a question for you that I'm not getting a clear answer for from anywhere else. So I have a pokemon that has pokerus, and I got it transmitted to an Aipom that I was going to EV train. This wasn't one of my primary one because it has a docile nature and isn't going to help my attack or speed stats at all, but I was still training it because it is triple flawless in HP, Attack, and Speed with Fake Out as an egg move. So I completely forgot about what time it was and had the Aipom in my party when the clock passed midnight, and then I saved the game when I got to the water's edge at Cerulean. It wasn't until after that when I checked the Aipom and realized what time it was, and that the PkRS symbol was no longer on the Aipom, but the yellow smiley face with the red outline symbol was there instead.

So my question is, will the Aipom still get the EV training bonus of having pokerus—or is it just gone on this one? I went ahead and KO'd 18 goldeens and 6 Seakings while holding the Power Bracer for attack increase so that there should be 180 EV's from the Goldeens and 72 EV's from the Seakings (according to a couple of different sources I have read about how the EV's multiply). This should equal my 252 EV's that I want in the Attack stat, giving an added 63 points there; but the stat is still relatively low which is what is making me think it didn't still have the effect of Pokerus.

Like I said this isn't going to be my main Aipom, and I wanted to EV train this one first in case I messed something up. I figured I would use this as a trial right now so if something like this happened I wouldn't be out a well bred Aipom. Thanks for your help!

    1. If your Pokemon has the smiley face icon then it still has Pokerus. It just can't spread the virus anymore. It should have the double EV benefits. Remember, all the stat gains are based on level 100, so perhaps they just haven't manifested just yet.

      1. That's what my assumption was going to be, but I figured why wonder when I'm friends with a Pokemon expert.

I knew all of the stat gains were calculated at level 100, but as long as the virus is still there and doubled the EV points along with my usage of power items I should be done with all EV training with 252 in Attack and Speed each, and 6 in HP. But the overall stats are still relatively low compared to what I thought they would be like—which was what was making me unsure. I am just going to level this one up and see how it turns out though now.

      2. so let me get this right, you purposefully get your pokemon sick so it can train and gain double XP??!?!? who comes up with these things!

      3. It really is. That's what I highlighted in Coffee Talk today. I'm hoping to finish my other Aipom tonight as well, and I will finish leveling up sometime soon for the first Aipom as well. I would just throw it in the daycare and then do a bunch of other things, but I have to wait until after level 43 when it learns the last move by leveling up.

      4. It's where you put your pokemon to breed (if they are compatible), and you can also level up your pokemon without actually having to battle them. For each step you take while a pokemon is in the daycare then one exp. point is added going towards leveling up. The daycare does nothing for EV points though, which influence individual stats (Hit Points, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed) which all are highly influential to the battle system.

      5. haha. somewhat. It does cost money too, $100 per level gained plus $100 to get each pokemon back.

      6. what!?!?! not only do you pimp out your pokemon but then you have to pay to get them back!?!?!? this is outta control!!!
