Original Halo Being Remade with the Reach Engine?

Eurogamer posted a hot rumor that the original Halo is going to be remade using the Halo: Reach engine. When asked about this rumor, Microsoft PR responded with the following:

Right now our focus is on supporting Halo: Reach. We have nothing to announce at this time.

In my head this is the PR equivalent of *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*, “It’s coming!” What do you think? Is a Halo remake in the works? Would you buy it?

  1. I've heard this rumor verbally not too long ago, it was accompanied by someone saying that they were going to make the original Halo playable online just like Halo 2 – Halo Reach have been. It would be cool, but I'm not sure that they are really going to do this.

  2. i agree that this will be remade and sold xmas time next year. they've probably seen the success that Nintendo and Sony have had with their re-made collections and finally want it.

    1. I suppose. I guess it could be a good way to still make a profit off of the Halo name given that other remakes have done well. MS hasn't really done any remakes though, which is why I guess I don't think this is as likely as happening. If they did it, it should probably be with a Halo game though.

  3. You know, I'd buy it too as long as they didn't charge more the $20 – $30 for it, but knowing them it will be $60.

  4. Actually, I don't see this coming out next year. Microsoft already has Gears and I'm pretty sure they didn't delay it a year just to have it compete with a different Halo. Multiplayer will probably be limited to campaign co-op with a second online only Reach disc. Think ODST, but with CE instead. That said, I'm all for it. If it is using the same engine as Reach, that means Bungie is making it. In-house game engines stay in-house. Plus, Bungie has stated how much they liked the development process for ODST. More developmental efficiency and extra revenue are always welcome.

It would be to big of a download. Even with muliplayer removed, you are looking at a base download of 2.3 GB (File size of the original game)

    1. Yeah but that can just be one more reason for them having bigger hdd's. I have plenty of space on my xbox for a 5gb download- assuming the new game would be download only and would be about twice the size of the original game download.

      1. I have to watch what I download, because my 120 gets to close to full when I start putting game on it. I probably won't be buying anymore games on demand. Disc please! (or a changeable HDD case so I can put a real HDD in it.

That isn't too big. Even with new textures and higher res you'd be sitting good under 4. They sell full sized games on xbox live already.

All games on xbox are compressed anyway, so it is feasible.
