Coffee Talk #226: How Many Hours of Games Do You Play?

Today’s Coffee Talk is real simple — I want to know how many hours of games you play each week. Sure, there are times when gaming dominates your life, but there are also times when you have other things to attend to or other forms of entertainment you enjoy. Give it some thought, average it out, vote in the poll, and discuss your answer in the comments section (please!).

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, today’s Windows Phone 7 hardware announcements, the Yankees resting up for the ALDS, or instant replay in MLB, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

  1. I voted for 11-15 because on a good week i can play at 6 hours during the week and the weekend i squeeze in a lot more than 9 hours depending on whether i have plans or not.

    @Yankees ALCS

Even though they always beat the Twins in the ALDS i'm just glad that it's always the Twins they are beating because that means the White Sox didn't make it again :D

  2. My averages depend on some variables…whether my fiance is here or not, amount of homework, and work. But I think I definitely average over 20. My fiance being around is the only one that I will more consistently cut down on my play time for.

  3. I usually play about 5 to 7 hours on Saturdays and throughout the week I might get in an hour or so a day, depending on the gf factor (gff).

    1. I'm going to get the Slimbox 360 later this afternoon, I can't wait lol. Even though I have a Xbox now its running on E in the memory department due to possessing a 20GBHD. All of it is being used by arcade games and DLC so that 250GBHD is going to be heavenly. I will finally be able to install all my games onto my Xbox without worry. YEEEEEEAAAAA BOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIEEE!!!!

    1. Yeah, that sucks.

I’m pulling for you, man. I was there not that long ago. Had a HELL of a time finding a job in this economy as well.

What I ended up doing was putting out my resume to at least 7 places a day (and everyone lies on their resume) and it was about 3 weeks after that until I got something decent.

If you need a reference, I’m here for you.

  4. When not in school it is easily 20+ hours per week, but with school right now I barely have time to even play on the weekends lately. And now that I am moving I have even less time.

    1. Man, that was such a letdown. That was supposed to be the company's biggest PPV of the year. You're supposed to send the crowd home happy. They ended with screwjobs two out of the last three years.

  5. Way too much. Of course, that's pretty subjective since other people here play a lot more than I do. Being married has it's advantages. For one thing, I don't have to waste my time pretending to care about some girl's "problems" for days on end just so I can get in bed with her. I can get laid whenever I want now and I don’t have to worry much about impressing someone or that whole asinine courtship, time-wasting thing.

  6. Me no likey that Raven Software's being slowly broken up by Activision. Sure, Wolfenstein and Singularity didn't do so well, but they've done a lot with the Marvel license in the past and I'd rather see them get that back.

  7. Anyone follow the Windows Phone 7 news today? It was so boring that I feel totally unmotivated to write a story about it. I'm sure WP7 will draw customers simply for its Outlook and Office integration, but Android and iOS are far more interesting to me at the moment.

    1. It's the Exchange integration that will pull the businesses, but alot of the old business types will still prefer their Blackberrys.

      1. Yeah, RIM and, to a lesser extent, Nokia have the most to lose in the immediate future. It's possible that WP7 can take away from Android and iOS market share as it matures, but I don't see a compelling reason for consumers to make the jump just yet.

      2. I don’t know, alot of the older tycoons are pretty stuck on the Blackberrys. Unless there are more Wall Street brokers and real estate tycoons that are heavy in to XBL that I don’t know about, I still think RIM will be around.

      1. Nothing to bash really — it’s just kind of boring. The hardware is good, but it’s mostly what you can find on Android phones. The OS is interesting, but at this point I wouldn’t choose it over Android or iOS.

      2. I know! Deathly Hallows has now made itself a midnight show and mulitple viewings movie to me.

  8. Sooo, since we've moved back to Arkansas I've been unemployed also. Which means I put in 20+ hrs a week. Not including the weekends b/c that's usually when the hubby is off, so that's his game time.
