Get Early Access to the Next Xbox 360 Dashboard Update

Microsoft marketing guy Major Nelson has revealed details on the Xbox Live Update Preview Program, which grants select users early access to the next Xbox 360 dashboard update. Here’s the skinny from the Major:

I am happy to announce that we’re doing an Xbox 360 System Update Preview program for our next release, and the opportunity to sign up is now available. The Preview Program will give you the chance to check out ESPN on Xbox Live, Zune music, Netflix search, the new Xbox Live dashboard, and new updates to Zune video and Family Settings on your Xbox 360. Much like we did last year, you’ll need to visit the Microsoft Connect site from this link and sign in with your Windows Live ID that is connected to your Xbox Live Gamertag. Once you complete the survey that is presented to you, the Connect site will notify you immediately if you’ve been accepted.

Getting early updates is fun. Are any of you going to try your luck and register for the Xbox Live Update Preview Program?

  1. Only if the new update brings back the original interface. I don't know why but I just cannot get the hang of the NXE (is it still considered that?)

  2. Wow! I'm signing up right now and i'm reading the terms and it says that the software can possibly render my system inoperable but doesn't mention receiving a replacement if MS screws up my xbox. decisions, decisions.

  3. @tokz: I'm fairly certain that falls under the CYA clause do to the fact that the PS3 actually has bricked systems with updates. I've never heard of dashboard updated bricking the 360 (not saying it can't happen, just haven't heard of it).

  4. @nightshade

    oh i agree but if you're making this available for an early preview and your updated bricks your system you should make a replacement system available. Also it mentions that you will not be able to party chat with anyone if youre in the early preview.

  5. Sure why not, I just signed up. I am interested to see how the new integrated apps work and how much I would actually use them.

  6. Uh… I think I'll pass on this.

    @Slicky;

    I'm with you. I liked the "blades" system better than the "NXT" interface. It's just a bit convoluted. I especially don't like how the newer interface blocks the bottom half of your wallpaper. Leave it to Microsoft to make an operating interface much more difficult than it normally has to be.

  7. I am looking forward to seeing how the new update will look and function. I feel like I might be one of the only people here who likes the NXE dashboard right now, but I am still curious to see how they change the new dashboard update.

    Browsing Netflix from my console will be very nice though!

  8. I already signed up and have been accepted.

    @BSU

    I like the NXE as well. It allows them to put way more information on my dashboard than the blades could.

    @Ray

    Haha the GPU did that on its own

  9. @Sandrock

    I agree, the blades always felt very crammed together. Cool design concept, but is was really only useful with less information than they provide now.

  10. i didn't finish the registration because i wasn't at home and don't know my serial number of my 360 by heart but idk if i want to do it because party chat won't be available if i do it. I just bought halo reach and am possibly thinking of taking a break from FF13 for today before i get to chapter 10. ugh almost done.

  11. @Tokz

    You might be able to finish FF13 right before FF14 comes out. lol. Am I the only one who feels like FF13 just came out yesterday and they are already trying to get FF14 out?? I might be, but it just feels like they are being released very close together. Also, maybe other FF games have been this way and I just never paid attention. That is very possible as well.

  12. @bsu

    haha. You may be right. At the rate i'm going. it's just a little time consuming and the boss battles are a long. maybe if i used a strategy guide, i would know how to beat them faster. well the PC version of ff14 is out now but i don't really feel like upgrading my pc right now. Maybe for SW: The old republic but that's not even going to be a release day purchase. Who knows how i'll feel playing DC Universe, or CoD Black Ops or idk what else is coming up.

  13. How bout Betty White on Community last night, huh huh!

    I have to finish FF13. Made it to I think chapter 8.

  14. @Smartguy

    That makes a lot more sense then. Not being a FF player and only seeing how soon after FF13 they released FF14 it seemed a bit soon. Different game types makes it all click though.
