As RPadholic smartguy pointed out, OzModChips is selling a product called PS3 Jailbreak that allegedly…wait for it…jailbreaks your PlayStation 3 console. In addition to playing copied games, an open PS3 would support custom firmware, homebrew gaming, and more. Sony can’t be thrilled with this development and I’m sure its lawyers will do everything in its power to shut it down, similar to how Nintendo is waging war against the R4 “backup” cartridge for Nintendo DS.
That said, there are several useful applications for PS3 Jailbreak (if it works as promised). Developers that can’t afford extra debug units to play early builds of games get a cheaper solution with this product. Journalists (and verbal entertainers) that can’t get debug kits from Sony have a way to play early builds and earn preview money. While I’m sure that this product will be demonized by console manufacturers and game publishers, it’s not inherently bad.
No tool is inherently bad, whether it is a hammer, gun, knife, infinity gauntlet, or mod chip. It is only in how you use that tool that you can say if the overall action is bad or good. So if developers want to use a modchip to play an early build of a game, that is perfectly fine, but if someone else wants to use the modchip to copy and burn games to a blank disk in order to sell bootleg copies on eBay… well, that's not fine. The thing is, you don't blame the tool or inanimate object for the crime, you have to blame the person committing that crime.

I know it can be used for "good" things but 1 thing I have always liked about consoles is that it has been too hard (for me anyway) to copy games. I took advantage of the pc back when I played games on by using Alcohol 120%. I'd hate to do the same to my PS3, but I could easily see myself slipping into that and I wouldn't want to. I'd like to think I support game makers (more than most people also) by buying all my games. But we'll see how long this lasts.

You should ask Cliff some tough questions on digital distribution and why pubs/devs think they deserve a piece of second hand sales? Also why do they want to take the ability away from us to trade games with friends?

I have played the Gears series, and it is ok, but what I am most looking forward to out of Cliff B is BulletStorm. That game cannot come soon enough!!
man this is tempting, but sony is just going to block it with firmware updates, and id be too worryed about getting banned from psn, if i had a second ps3 id be all over this
