PSN Premium Service to be Unveiled at E3 2010?

In addition to the rumors that Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3 2010, VG247 has heard that the company will also unveil a premium PSN service at its press conference. The service is said to include one free PSN title a month (from a limited selection) and a streaming music service similar to Spotify. The site’s sources pegged the pricing at £50. If that’s accurate, I’d expect the American price would be lower since Microsoft’s competing Xbox Live Gold service is $50 a year. (£50 is approximately $61 at the moment.)

The streaming music service is the most interesting tidbit to me. Since Sony has movie and music divisions, it could include streaming movies/music in a premium PSN package to greatly differentiate itself from Xbox Live Gold. However, Sony’s various divisions have not played well in the past so that’s probably just a pipe dream.

Any thoughts on this PSN premium rumor? What would you want to see in the service?

  1. I like the streaming music idea.

I'd like to see faster downloads for premium subscribers.

I'd want Qore to come with it. I pay $25/year (i think) for it already and it used to give me a free game each month but its been High Velocity Bowling for the last 6 months.

Not keen on streaming movies unless they just throw that in. Maybe 1 free stream a month of something.

  2. The streaming catalog would need to be better than what you pay for Netflix already.

Can't you stream music via the browser on the PS3? I haven't tried but it seems that could just go to Pandora and do what you need.

I don't see myself paying for it though. The network is slow enough. i'm not paying for slow downloads. Besides…WoW owns me again.

HAHA!!! I had never even considered just logging into Pandora. So I decided to check it. Works great! Now I need to question why I need the 23,000+ songs I have stored on my PS3s hdd. Thanks

  4. The rumor says that Sony's streaming service will be able to replace in-game music. I supposed that's the only advantage it could have over Pandora.

  5. That would be cool. I have been playing the heck out of Just Cause 2 and music would go great with it. I was thinking something classical while I blow the heck out of stuff. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies with strategically timed missiles being fired at an Off-Shore Oil Rig or a Radar facility. or Ride of the Valkyries…

  6. actually played the violin from middle school through college

    *tell no one

  7. @thundercracker

I wish I had musical talent. I salute you on the violin. I hear it is one of the hardest to learn.

  8. I played a Silver Busch Cornet (smaller trumpet). I had the only silver instrument in the band. Played from 6 grade to 11th. Then I got tired of playing football and then going out at halftime and Marching also so I dropped band.

I would love to learn the violin. And the harmonica (Blues Traveler's fault)

  9. Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to learn how to play the bagpipes.

Damn you, Scrooge McDuck and your lasting impressions on my vulnerable childhood phase!

lol. I was watching Dark Knight 2 days ago and during the big police funeral I just told a friend it would be fun to learn the bagpipes. I heard it takes some serious lung capacity to play them.

  11. a day later

guitar is a lot harder to learn than violin…was for me anyways

80 percent of playing the violin is knowing how to hold the scroll up correctly, chin placement and being able to move the bow across the strings completely straight
