Coffee Talk #142: Do You Dream About Game Companies?

I’ve told a few of you about this already, but I’ve been having this dream about BioWare for the last decade or so. I’m at this super fancy awards show (think Oscars or Emmys). I’m wearing a tuxedo and I’m at a podium presenting an award. Finally, with complete seriousness I say:

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, why Chase’s customer services sucks, highlights of last night’s Monday Night Raw (missed it), or your feelings on the Thor movie, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

And the award for best white developer goes to — oh my God! — Ray and Greg! BioWare!!!

I’ve actually told BioWare’s Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk about this dream. The reason I’m bringing it up again? Well, I’ve been having another BioWare dream…but I’ll share that with you tomorrow.

For now I’d love to hear about your videogame-company dreams. I’m not talking about dream games. I’m talking about dreams that involve developers, publishers, etc. Perhaps you’ve had a dream where you match wits with Will Wright. Maybe you’ve explored caves and tended gardens with Shigeru Miyamoto. I know at least one of you has had a dream about Cliff Bleszinski in lingerie (bonus points for ornate tales about Cliffy in a thong). Share your dreams in the comments section (please)!

  1. I don't have any weird dreams like that. I dream about the usual things falling from the sky, teeth falling out, drowning, the zombie apocalypse, nuclear bomb going off, and fantasy sex dreams but no developers.

    @raw

    I saw bits and pieces. It didn't do anything to keep my attention, if there was a time i would've watched TNA, yesterday would've been that day.

    @rpad

    Sorry to hear that you're having issues with Chase customer service. I have 2 friends that are personal bankers so i don't have issues like that. My gf experiences the same thing and once she complains i know she wants me to take care of it then i tell my friends and poof it's gone. Almost mob like.

    @thor movie

    I'm still having mixed feelings about this. I'm not a Thor guy. Maybe the Cap America movie will win me over to watch it. Hey I saw the release date of Ant Man is after the Avengers movie. Why isn't he in the Avengers movie coming out?

  2. @tokz_21 Weird?!? I thought it was a pretty normal dream. Ha!

    I'm sold on Thor simply because Kenneth Branagh is directing.

    As for Ant Man…well, he's Ant Man. That's a tough sell. Maybe an Avengers movie can generate more interest in him instead of vice versa.

  3. No. Just individual games. I'm such a geek at times. I kept dreaming of running particular instances over and over until I got all the pulls right. Luckily it transferred to my actual gameplay.

  4. @arguello

    I agree. Why are they trying to regulate the used game business. Most of the used games come from consumers who aren't happy with the way game turned out and want to re-coup their money. The person who buys EA games shouldn't have to pay extra for this.

  5. For me it's more just playing a role in a game, winning the war single handedly and whatnot. But there is sometimes one where I am creating games, not with anyone in particular all the time, just in general. Like, a consultant who gets brought in to make the developers next game better. When it is a specific developer it is always id software and trying to come up with ways to make their games better so that they are on top of the fps game like they used to be in the heydays of Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, etc.

    Another dream which I have had (and which I actually found a research study on the matter that made me try to do this) where I dream about Tetris. The study I read stated that people who are able to dream about Tetris are able to react more quickly to placing tetrominoes which translates to better playing skills. It worked. I still cannot beat Tetris in under 20 minutes (for the achievement on Tetris Splash) but I can beat the game in about 26 minutes now.

    1. About to try alligator and pork andouille at Wurstkuche. It's this hipster place downtown, but the sausages are supposed to be amazing. They have Belgian fries and white ale too!

  6. EA already did that with BC2 if you didn't buy the limited edition. Honestly GS could just lower their price on used sports games and all will be fine.

  7. No store in my area got Batman AA GOTY edition today. I was really loking forward to buying it

  8. Just went 1-1 on Scrabble against N8R. My power level is increasing, but he's still owning me. The only reason I won the second game was because I lucked out with the word "alkalise" and used all my tiles. One day my powers will return to their former levels!!!

  9. Why you gotta gloat Ray?

    Yeah, "alkalise" is a badass word that my spell checker won't even recognize.

  10. @Ray

    Um…I actually tried at Amazon also, but they are out of stock too.

  11. @ Thundercracker

    You would need both blank tiles which would severely diminish the scoring possibilities.

    The most you could get from it is 54 on the triple word score… which is pretty damn good… but there is better.

  12. @ Thundercracker

    However, if you played the "s" at the end of another word making it plural… it could possibly get MUCH higher.
