Guys Pay, Girls Get Paid to Play Games GameCrush

Hey guys! Would you pay money to play games with a girl and get to know her? Hi girls! Would you accept money to play games with men “wookin’ pa nub”? GameCrush thinks that gamers are willing to do so. Its service, which launches in a few hours, is part multiplayer gaming and part Craigslist personal ads. According to IGN:

On GameCrush, guys are Players and girls are PlayDates. Players pay to play and PlayDates get paid to play. Guys can browse PlayDate profiles (there are currently around 1,200), view photos, and even chat with girls for free.

Part of me wants to dismiss the service as complete lameness, but I’m going to try to look on the bright side of life here. It’s cool that GameCrush will pay girls to play games. It stimulates the economy (am I stretching here?). I think personal ads are kind of loser-ish, but one of my best friends went on a bunch of fun dates through Craigslist San Francisco.

It’s not for me, but I want to know what you think of GameCrush. Is it a lame service based on a weak stereotype that male gamers are lonely losers? Or is it an innovative way to meet people and find romance? For the three female readers that I have, would you accept money to play games with strangers that may or may not want to talk dirty on Xbox Live?

  1. So, so sad.

On the bright side, maybe my wife can make some extra cash on the side with this!

  2. This reminds me of http://www.game4adate.com. I saw ads for that before, and it seemed unique. I wouldn't dismiss it, because I am sure the market is out there (on both sides) and that there will be enough willing to pay for this service. The fact that there have been other websites that have tried to do this tells me that it is not a failing market. I wouldn't say that the service is lame, it is simply taking advantage of an untapped market that is willing to pay.

That having been said, the service is not for me. Of course I am engaged, lol, but even if I weren't I'm not sure that this service is for me.

  3. Seriously who thinks of these things! It's not like you're guaranteed a date with one of them. Also how do would someone know those are the chicks they're are playing with. Lastly who would someone know they're a chick! I'm just thinking about the guys who

    might actually fall for this.

  4. Honestly if your going to pay to play a game with a girl online why wouldn't you pay a hooker to come over and do some split screen and then do some SPLIT SCREEN?

  5. @Big Blak

For sure. Every market must be exploited, this is no exception. I am interested to see how the site does once it goes up. I checked it out to take a look around, but the timer keeps going up on my screen. So I am assuming the site had some unforeseen difficulties before launch.

  6. I just looked at the prices…I do not think that I would want to pay that much for this service. Perhaps not all people can afford $8.25 for 10 minutes of Halo 3…or maybe I am the only one who can’t.

  7. hey cami–where you at?

    wanna play some COD?

    ill pay you….please….im desperate

  8. @ Tokz,

You can actually chat with them via headset and mic. Also, the service has casual games like checkers, chess, and battleship where you can see the girl on the web cam. Still… pretty pathetic.

  9. um yeah. This is the dumbest and lamest thing I have ever heard of…..wait where was that link again.

I actually think its kinda cool as long as the girls are true gamers its okay i guess.

  10. @iceman
hahaha. Thanks for the additional info but even if I was single. It’s still a waste of money. I don’t really need a girl to be a gamer girl, I just need her to not care about my gaming and nerd habits.

  11. Wow, the servers are up in smoke and they can’t even open the site up because of all the interest in the site.

  12. @Thundercracker – Hahaha! At least you're man enough to admit desperation *wink wink* But I hate to disappoint you b/c I really dislike shooters. :P :P But I dig any chance I get to chat with friends on PSN, I do own a bluetooth. And it's bad enough that I have Sandrock following me around all day while we're at work :P

@topic – Hmmmm…. You know, I guess I could go both ways on this. I know there are a lot of single guys out there who spend much of their daily lives working then coming home to play video games w/o someone to share them with. And I know for a fact I have a few friends who would really like a gamer girl in their life, b/c most women complain about their bf's or spouses playing games way too long. So I could see that actually being a hot commodity for those who are truly interested in finding the legendary "gamer girl zomg who don't exist on the internetz lawl" and actually use the website as intended. This could be an outlet for some friends of mine.

*Tosses a Master Ball at the Legendary Gamer Girl*

But on the other hand I don't see this thing doing worth a crap. Honestly. It's gonna remind me of Playstation Home all over again. Girls dabble in it who might possibly not know a damn thing about online gaming or gaming in general. And guys on there are constantly trying to find a new set of bewbs to fap to while asking you to do uncomfortable things via web cam. Disgusting.

Or maybe it's b/c I'm viewing this from a married person's perspective. I guess lucky for my husband he's married a gamer girl. And actually it's the other way around for us b/c he wishes I wouldn't play so damn much cause I'm all in his "man cave" aka the living room lol.

If I were single, and I'm being honest about this, I probably would have browsed the site. I mean hell, I'm 50/50 on thoughts of it being lame and thoughts on it having good potential. Getting paid for it would be a perk.

Hell I just knew where I could test games for money, but not in a dating service lol.

  13. i just dont know what to say! sounds like the gamers version of a titty bar. kinda has a dirty feel to it to me.

  14. This was THE conversation topic at the Capcom barbecue I attended last night. The consensus is that it's either going fail hard or it's going to be a ridiculous success. Most of us think it's going to flop, but are afraid that it won't.

Personally, I think it should be the next focus for an HBO special about pimps and ho's. That's essentially the model GameCrush is following. The pimp (GameCrush) keeps 60% while the girl only gets 40% and does all the work.

    @blasphemous Use a Gravatar!

  15. It could become the next eharmony really. Those sites make a lot of cash because they are easy to use. I could see this one working out if the premise were tweaked just a bit. Like…everyone pays.

  16. @cami

i was just making a joke, i know you arent single, and even if you were, im not THAT guy

  17. Eh, I’ve been married to a perfectly attractive gamer girl for almost 4 years now, and I didn’t have to pay her to talk to me. If you just learn a few social skills, you’ll do just fine.

  18. “I guess lucky for my husband he’s married a gamer girl.”

… Your husband has two wives?!

    AWESOME!

  19. the more i think about it, the more i dont like the idea. If guys are really serious about meeting a girl gamer, they are not hard to find. Just look up your local gaming clubs on yahoo or wherever you wish to look for. Go to conventions, do something.

You are not gonna find a local woman near you if all you do is work, go home and play games.

But I am just an ole southern hick.

  20. Gah now I feel dirt for actually saying I might have visited it if I was single hahaha *hides in a corner*
