Netflix Streaming Coming to PlayStation 3 in November

PS3 Slim Netflix

Sony Computer Entertainment of America announced that Netflix streaming will be hitting the PlayStation 3 in November. In a recent press release, SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton said:

The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows. Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.

Although Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has offered this feature for quite some time, it’s an important feature for Sony to have for attracting new customers. Both consoles offer downloadable movies, DVD playback, and Netflix streaming, but only the PS3 offers Blu-ray capabilities. Considering that both consoles are similarly priced (now), Microsoft has lost one of its differentiating features.

  1. Tough call…

Both of them have their own degree of humiliation. The Testicular Claw has an old man leading you around by your genitalia, and Golddust just looks the way he does.

I'm gonna have to vote for Testicular Claw.

  2. watching a golddust match is like watching a horror film. I swear i would change the channel when he had a match. while watching ric flair match is like watching a quentin tarantino movie.

  3. @rbee90 Goldust has been doing some great work lately. He's motivated and has a great role these days. He's often paired with younger wrestlers to show them the ropes. Remember, he had some great matches when he was Dustin Rhodes. He's been bringing it.

Im not saying he's a bad wrestler. I even respect him for making the WWE what it is today. He just scares the crap out of me. I remember watching him at raw is war back in 98, i was an 8 year old filipino boy with little knowledge of who or what wrestling is, scared and disturbed by his face, hiding behind my lolo's chair.

  5. @rpad

i do know your in LA. In fact, i love that neighborhood, might move in there if i get accepted at USC. i was asking N8R where he lives.

    yes, he does….yes, he does…

  6. @thundercracker

oh, how about you? i assume you live in SoCal as well? and why are you up this early?

  7. @thunder

oh, my bad, my cousin goes to UV richmond, lucky sonuvabitch is taking up VG designing.

  8. Sorry… I forgot about this thread.

I live in Victorville up in San Bernardino County. I'm originally from Pittsburgh PA though.

  9. Can't wait for Netflix personally. I hated having to pay into Xbox live for the ability to stream videos from a service I pay for already. When this goes through it will be a happy day indeed.

  10. Netflix needs to vastly improve their streaming serivce/digital movie catalog before I go back to them

  11. The movie portion of the service… completely agree. However, the value for me is in the streaming TV shows. Having missed the first three season of heroes, I sat down over the summer and watched them all stream over a period of three weeks. I am trying to catch up with Lost now, so this will just make it so much more convienent.

  12. Do you have to have a Gold XBL and a subscription to Netflix to use it? If so I hope Sony just adds it free of charge like most everything else (except of course the Netflix Subscriptions)

  13. @SlickyFats Yes, you do have to be Gold (unless that has changed recently?). From the announcement it looks like it is free of charge on PS3, except for the $8.99/month minimum Netflix plan.

  14. It could just be me, but it seems that the argument for subscribing to Xbox Live Gold is being diminished by Sony's competitiveness little by little.

  15. Funny party…U of Richmond isn't even inside Richmond city limits. Virginia Commonwealth University is.

  16. vcu campus mostly around broad street in richmond

the university of richmond is in richmond though, at least it has a richmond zip code

i went to william and mary, so i could care less about u of r

  17. @Iceman That's a totally fair point. Xbox Live is still a smoother experience, but in terms of added value, Sony is making it tougher and tougher to justify paying for online.

  18. A buddy of mine went to William & Mary. My brother acutally got accepted there but decieded to go to Mary Washington instead.
